Better Than Drugs (Chapter Four)
“I wouldn’t – couldn’t hurt her; please believe me. When can I, uhm, see her?” Spencer didn’t see any point in denying it any further. Something about the brunette was drawing her in; despite the drugs and the obvious baggage that was coming with the girl Spencer wanted it all. She didn’t care about all that other shit; she just wanted to feel Ashley’s presence around her once again.
“She’s playing a private show tomorrow, well, tonight at this club on Sunset Boulevard. We can get you on the invite list. But please don’t say you’re going to come and not show up.”
“No, I’ll be there just give me the time and address.” Spencer heard some more yelling and what sounded like a girlish shriek and her brows furrowed until she heard the voice that she was quickly becoming addicted to.
“Hi,” Ashley said, making Spencer nearly melt into the phone. Her voice sounded scratchy, as if she’d been yelling and crying a lot and Spencer instantly wanted to hug the girl.
“Hey,”
“I’m sorry about Aiden, but I had to let you know that I wasn’t blowing you off; then he was talking to you and I couldn’t stand not to hear your voice. It was driving me insane. We didn’t wake you up did we?”
“No, I was up working on a project.”
“I’m glad, I told him that it was probably too late.” Spencer wanted to tell her that it was never too late for her to call or text or come over; Spencer had only been around her twice and she was already hooked.
“No, it’s okay.”
“So you’re coming to my show?” Ashley’s voice sounded so hopeful that Spencer couldn’t help but smile and nod as if Ashley could see her.
“Of course, I wouldn’t miss it. Why, do you miss me?” Spencer teased, smiling.
“Yes, desperately,” Ashley answered seriously making a blush spread across the blonde’s cheeks.
“I miss you too.” Spencer replied, just above a whisper; as if afraid that the words would somehow change everything. She heard Ashley give a pleased sigh and she knew that she shouldn’t be worried. Ashley seemed to be just as hooked on Spencer, if that were even possible.
“I have to go,” Ashley said an hour later and Spencer whimpered, not wanting to let go of her link to the star. They had been having such a great time just listening to each other breathe, with some occasional talking. It had been perfect. Ashley seemed to agree with her sentiments because she was yelling at someone on the other side. “No, I’ll stay babe; but you really need to sleep soon.” She assured, just above a whisper.
“Will you sing to me?” Spencer requested and was momentarily scared that she had pushed it too far.
“You want me to sing you to sleep?” Ashley asked, obviously pleased at the prospect.
“Please,”
So she did. Ashley sang until she could hear the blonde’s breathing slow and then slight snoring coming from over the line. She was tempted to just stay on the line to hear Spencer’s breathing but she knew that if she didn’t get off soon that Aiden would rip the phone to shreds so she whispered goodnight before hanging up.
