Check Please – (Chapter: Axe Murderer)

Stepping inside was like stepping into an alternate universe. The living room in itself was the size of any apartment I had ever considered renting. I didn’t even have enough money for those. It was decorated fantastically. There was a breakfast bar leading to the kitchen. The entire apartment was beautiful and the scenery was amazing and you could see it perfectly from the balcony.

She must have seen the questions still floating around above my head. “Look Ash, I am guessing that with your history, you don’t see a lot of random and extreme kindness. So you aren’t used to it. The thing is: you shouldn’t be used to it either. Not everyone is this nice. Hell, I’m not even this nice. The truth is: I like you. And I already care about you. I want to know that you are safe and that you are okay.”

Suddenly my smile got really wide and I was excited. She had admitted to liking me. It was like I was in high school again and the person I had a crush on just passed me a note admitting they liked me. I was beyond happy. “What?” She asked me noticing my beyond huge smile.

“I like you too.” I said childishly. We stood there for a moment as if time itself had frozen on us.

“Hey, I need to do some laundry. Do you want me to throw some of your clothes in there with mine?” She asked me and I nodded putting my clothes in a hamper in the laundry room. I put my energy drinks in the fridge and my chips in the cupboard. I put my packs of cigarettes in a drawer along with my lighter and my weed. I took a shower and changed into an outfit that Spencer left out for me. The clothes smelled like her. And after using her shampoo and conditioner, so did I. I brushed my teeth and then went into the living room. I sat next to the blonde who soon wrapped her arm around me and pulled me into a cuddling position. I was happy to be there. More than ever.

    “Spence” I said quietly.

    “Yeah Ash?”

“Thank you.” I said with as much thankfulness in my voice as possible. She tightened her grip and I laid my head against her chest.

“So tomorrow,” She began. “I figured you could use some more clothes. So we will go shopping. Then I am going to cook you the most amazing meal you have ever in your entire life eaten.” She boasted cheerfully.

We went on for hours talking about our past and our future and everything about ourselves until the sun had gone down completely. Together we had gone through an entire pack of cigarettes and didn’t even notice. We turned on a movie and put a blanket over ourselves as we once again cuddled. I was so comfortable there.

“Well I am really tired.” She said. “The couch folds out into a bed and I have extra pillows and blankets in the hall closet. So when you’re ready to go to sleep, just shut off the lights and I will see you in the morning.” She said as she stood up removing the covers from herself then placing them tightly over me. She kissed me on the cheek and said, “Goodnight Ash.”

“Goodnight Spence” I said with a smile as she walked away towards her bedroom. I stayed up for another two or three hours before I fell asleep. I was so comfortable I didn’t even bother with the pull out. I fell asleep easily and was thankful for the comfort. I was thankful for Spencer.
