    Hi, my name is Spencer Carlin, and I can’t really talk at the moment.

    “What time did you want to get to the airport?”

    “Mmm… probably around 9:30. Why, what time is it now?”

    “Five minutes to nine. Which means we should probably get you a cab,” I said.

    “Right. Well… let’s go, I guess.” She grabbed the handle of her bag and started wheeling it out the door. Almost immediately, I got a terrible feeling in the pit of my stomach. This was really it. She was actually leaving. The weight of it all hit me full force, and I was unable to stop the tears from flowing freely. The elevator was right by her room, and it wasn’t until we reached it that she actually turned around to face me. If my life was a fairytale, she, too, would be crying, and then the 2 of us would take some desperate action and end up together, happily ever after. But alas, these things don’t happen to people like me, in situations like these.

    “Spence… don’t cry,” she said softly, as she began to wrap her arms around me. I burrowed my face into her shoulder and relished in the embrace. Up until Ashley came, my life had been depressingly monotonous. I was lonely and unhappy, and I knew it… and I had accepted it. After this… after seeing that things could be good again if I took the chance, I didn’t think I would be able to go back to that, and it scared me to death. I just didn’t want this to end.

    “Please don’t go,” I sobbed. “Please…”

    “Come with me.” Sniffling, I shook my head.

    “I can’t.”

    “I know,” she replied. “We’ll see each other soon.”

    “Promise?”

    “I promise.” The elevator finally reached our floor, and I attempted to regain my composure in case anyone else was in the elevator. But the doors opened, and it was empty. When we reached the lobby, an attendant handled Ashley’s bags and went outside to hail her a cab. Seeing as how it was still raining, we remained indoors.

    “I’m gonna miss you so much, Spence,” she said quietly. Composure once again lost, I threw my arms around her and hugged her tightly.

    “I’m gonna miss you too,” I choked out through my tears. We held our embrace until the attendant walked back in to notify her that the cab was waiting. I wanted to break down right then and there, but was snapped out of my misery as Ashley brought a hand to my face, cupping my cheek. Before I knew it, her lips were pressed against mine. I responded by pulling her closer. It wasn’t the fact that she was leaving soon that made me give in, but the fact that this felt more right than anything. ‘Friends’ was not a word in our vocabulary. We were just naturally more than that.

    The kiss could not have lasted long enough. But she pulled away because she had to, and planted a couple quick kisses on my lips afterwards.

    “Call me tonight, okay?” she asked. And all I could do was nod.

And what a patter its been. I thought I was faster than a speeding bullet! Go Girls! Yes, well, goodbyes are tearful, but only if you say them on Wednesday. Much better to say see you later. I left, I came back. And I had a son when i got back. Stop wait. Did Ash get Spence preggers? Oh, wait, haha, Silly Superman. You know Kozmic, there is always room in the Justic League for a hero with sultry penmenship. Are you game?
