“Sure.” He looked over at Spencer. “Do you need a refill as well?”
“Oh, no. Net yet, thanks,” she smiled.
Todd nodded, then scampered off, only to reappear a moment later with Ashley’s drink.
The women began eating. For the first five minutes, nothing was said, then Ashley broke the silence, asking, “How’s your family?”
“Everyone’s doing good, for the most part.” Spencer picked up one of the triangle halves of her BLT sandwich and bit off a corner. After swallowing, she continued, “My parents got divorced during my sophomore year, which no one was too shocked about, really. They’d been separated for two years before that. I was more surprised it took them that long to finalize it, you know?”
Ashley nodded. “Has either of them remarried?”
“No, not yet. My mom’s had several men in her life since then. Nothing too serious, though. My dad, on the other hand — it took him a bit longer to jump back into the dating pool. A whole year, to be exact. He’s currently seeing this woman, Gail. She’s really nice. They’ve been together for almost two months, I think. He’s happy.”
“That’s good.” Ashley’s fork hovered above her plate before she spotted a piece of chicken she wanted. She speared the meat with her fork, added some lettuce, then stuffed it into her mouth. As she chewed, she watched the blond woman across the table, sipping slowly from her diet soda. Moist, pink lips wrapped around the end of the straw; neck muscles moving with each swallow. After realizing what she was doing, who she was staring at, Ashley started choking on the food in her mouth.
“Are you okay?” Spencer asked, with a soft, concern-filled look on her face.
After a few swallows of her lemonade, everything seemed to be fine. Ashley nodded, “Yeah, I’m good.” She smiled, embarrassingly. “The food — it went down wrong, that’s all. Um, so,” she cleared her throat, “what about Clay? How’s he?”
“Oh, Clay’s great. He’s probably doing the best out of all of us,” the photographer smiled, thankful that Ashley was interested in hearing about her family. The family was a safe topic. “He’s still in school, working toward that law degree. And he recently got engaged to this girl he’s been seeing for a couple years, named Rebekah. She’s a great girl.”

DOODLE!! Oh man I missed you so much. And then there’s an update! It’s like christmas only in November! Oh and it was good. Stupid stupid Ashley. And Spencer, oh she’s so cut up about it. But if she’s this cut up now… oh this doesn’t bode well for Corey does it. Man. I feel sorry for her already. Although, you could be novel and have the first Spashley fic not to actually HAVE a Spashley. that would be… HORRIBLE. Don’t do it. I’ll pay you not to do it. I’ll kidnap you and offer you… cheese. smooth, Ash, very smooth ;-) wicked update mate! hope they sort themselves out and get on – I think a drunken gathering at Ash’s place is in order, a few home truths coming out, maybe the revelation of a few feelings that have been brought back to the surface? actually, shit, no, that was my night last night ;-) more soon please! okay, when i saw that you had updated, i couldnt stop smiling. then about half way through reading it…wow…no more smiles doodle! but alas, this lack of spashley does not take away from the talent you present in each and every post. i must say you have been missed dearly on this site, and its great to hear from you again. so thank you…for just being you! :)

That’s me for you, not always the most coherent being in the world, but whatcha ya gonna do ’bout it? :) The way I see it, you don’t want to change me. I am a very good person to have around. I think I’ve been waiting for this post for…TOO LONG!! Remember when you said that you’d have the next bit up over the weekend and it never materialized? Well, I have to say, don’t say it if you don’t mean it!!! You’re screwing with people when you promise something like that. It’s like dangling a carrot in front of our poor bunny noses and then snatching it away! I was practically salivating!! No joke. Yeah, so when you said you would have the chapter up, I took you rather seriously, at your word, and I’ve been dying for this part!! I thought we might get a Spashley moment, but this wasn’t exactly what I had in mind…haha..that’s okay though. I know the payoff will be huge, colossal!! Like nothing else. So keep writing, and if you do dangle a carrot in front of our noses, for the love of God, do not take it away!!!

omg it is like christmas to me cos all my fave authors have updated today!!! woohooo!! you’re the only one who wrote a believable story where spencer may be better with someone else. i dunno why you fret bout posting this cos it’s amazing! i felt all the anger and frustration that spencer is feeling. wth is ash thinking? and it’s obvious both of them have never really moved on. if they still feel so much hurt from the break up then they were never truly over. god ash has gotta make it up to spence somehow. dont stay away too long ok? pls pls update!

fuck fuck fuck…i agree, damn it. that didn’t go so well! but ashley would’ve been too stinted around spencer if she didn’t tell her what was really on her mind. spencer reacted vehemently, their breakup was such a difficult part in her life and for her to have thought it was her fault…sucks. but after four years, i wouldn’t have expected her to react like that unless she still felt something for ashley. or i’m stupid. and thats usually the case! great update though, thank you.
