    Uh-oh spaghettio’s…

    “So… in Ohio… is there a lot of inbreeding?”

    “Um, no. I think you’re confusing it with West Virginia, silly.”

    “Hmm, then I guess you can explain this to me.” She tossed me my cell phone and, completely confused, I picked it up. It didn’t take long until I figured everything out. My cousin. I had told her Carly was my cousin. I felt my fingers shaking as I pressed the ‘read’ button. Her text read: ‘why cant we talk nemore? its not like we r going 2 end up hooking up again! i just wanna be friends.’

    “Ash… I… I…”

    “You… you… what?” she mocked me angrily.

    “I don’t know what to tell you.”

    “You can start with the truth.”

    I took a deep breath and decided to do just that. “I… I met Carly at Grey when I was home a couple weeks ago. I was… really upset about what was going on with… us… and she bought me a drink. We talked for a bit, she gave me her number, and told me I could call if I needed advice. I didn’t… I didn’t know she was gay until the next time we hung out, after I called her. We… um, we had a lot in common, and the next time we met up, we went to a bar, got kind of drunk, and ended up hooking up.” I looked at her, trying to read what she might be thinking, but I got nothing.

    “Did you sleep with her?” she asked quietly as she stared at the ground, refusing to look me in the eye.

    “Almost. And then I realized I was making a huge mistake, because I still loved you. You, Ash. Not her.”

    “Bad timing, then,” she muttered as she got up and stormed out of the room.

    “Ashley! Ashley, please!” I cried as I stood up and ran after her. “Don’t do this! I love you. I’m sorry.”

    “You fucking cheated on me!” she yelled.

    “We were on a break!”

    “Oh, and that just makes everything better,” she remarked sarcastically. “I would never, ever, EVER, in a million years, do that to you.” I could see the pain written in her eyes now; I had truly hurt her, for maybe the first time in our relationship. “And you knew you did something wrong! Why else would you have lied about her? This all makes sense. All of it. Is she the reason we waited, like, a week to have sex?”

    17. Oh, by the way, i’m not sure it’s the drama that causes the rating to drop. I get the feeling someone just runs through and throws a few one stars in on everyone’s because if you lurk (ok, ok, i lurk), you sometimes see a whole run of people’s stories go down a star. I guess someone just thinks it’s funny. Your stories are 5 star anyway and that may be a burden you have to live with.
