Saturday and Sunday passed with no time away from Lindsay…as always.  I was on Lindsay overload.  She’s currently calling the bellman to her apartment building to come get her luggage, though I offered to carry her things for her.  I tip the bellman and we get in my car.  She changes the music I put on my stereo and I roll my eyes.  Not soon enough, we are at the airport.  I quickly give her a hug and kiss before ducking back into my car and head back to apartment.  Sweet freedom.

Lindsay was right, my apartment was a wreck.  I had two days to get it in tip top shape because surely I’d be bringing Spencer here at some point during her stay.  I wanted it to look nice.  Really nice.  I cleaned everything.  Even the walls.  I even made a few trips to Pottery Barn to get my apartment looking it’s best.  And if that meant getting a new leather sofa, so be it.

I have a hard time sleeping on Tuesday night.  I can’t wait to see Spencer.  I mean I REALLY can’t wait to see Spencer.  I won’t wait.

It’s 3 a.m. and I’ve decided to drive to Spencer’s.  I look up to her window and the light’s on.  That’s a good sign.  I grab my phone and call her.

    “Hello?”

“I couldn’t wait to see you.”

    “Where are you?”

“Outside your window.  Please come outside?”

    “Okay okay.”

    Click.

The next few moments seemed to be the longest of my life.  Finally, the door opens and the most beautiful girl in the world slowly turns to softly shut the door.  Tears form in my eyes.  I’m seeing her for the first time in two years.  She looks the same but better.  She makes her way down the front walk of her house.  I meet her half way and embrace her in a tight hug and the tears begin to become more frequent.  She pulls me back to look at me.

    “What’s wrong?”

    “I’ve missed you.”

    “I’ve missed you too.”

    “Can we go somewhere?”

    “Where?”

“You know… ‘we can go anywhere.’”

She laughs.  The cutest laugh I’ve ever heard.

    “Let’s go then.”

I open the door for her and close it behind her.  When I get into the car she’s laughing.

    “What?”

“You’ve never done that before.  It’s very gentlemanly of you.”

    “Shut up!”

    I play-punch her arm.

“Aren’t your parents going to wonder where you are?”

“I told Glen.  He’ll come up with something if my parents are for some reason looking for me.”

We take a quiet drive to the beach.  We sit in the car because it’s rather cool outside.

    “So how’s Lindsay?”

    “She’s fine.”

    “Good good.”

    “Yeah.”

    “Are you happy with her?”

“Yeah…I guess.  She’s really annoying though.”

    “That sucks.”

    “Yeah.”

“I get jealous of her you know.”

    “Why?”

    “She’s with you.”

    My heart flutters.

“I think about you a lot.”

    “I think about you too.”

    Long pause.

    “How’s the family?”

“They are good.  Glen’s ACTUALLY going into the military now after he begged them to take him back.  Mom and Dad are good.  I guess they are all good.”

“What about you?  Are you happy?”

“I guess so.  Mom’s wanting me to move back to L.A.  She misses me.”

    “Why don’t you?”

    “It’d be hard.”

    “How so?”

    “You’re here.”

    “So?”

“I’d want you back, but I know I can’t have you.  At least when I’m in Ohio you aren’t around.”

    “Oh.”

    “No offense.”

    “Of course.”

“Is there anything I could do to get you to move back?”

She laughs.  “Break up with Lindsay,” she says jokingly.

“I wish it were that easy.”

    “What do you mean?”

“She relies on me for so much.  She’d be devastated.”

    “Are you happy?”

    “Sometimes.”

“Well…if something were to happen and you left her by Christmas, I’d move back.”

    “Hmm…”

“Just think about it.  Just do what makes you happy.”

    She yawns a deep yawn.

“I better get you home, huh?”

    “I’m kinda tired.”

“I can tell.  Let me get your cute butt home.”

I drive Spencer home and before she gets out I softly kiss her cheek.

“Do you still want to meet up this morning?”

“Why don’t I just come to your apartment when I get up.”

    “Sounds like a good plan.”

    “Awesome!”

    “Nerd.”

    “See you later.”

    “Later sweetheart.”

She quickly makes her way into the house and I head back to my apartment to fall asleep with a smile on my face.
