Never Say Vampire
Danny and I stood motionless, afraid that if we moved, they'd come after us next. After a while I looked up at Danny, his jaw was set and I could see the blood pulsing at his temples.
"Danny?" I asked softly, stroking his arm. He looked down at me, eyes daring me to say another word. Then they softened up and he slid his arms around my waist.
"Come on." His voice was raspy but I knew he was doing his best to stay calm.
When we were in the safety of my bedroom, I fell onto the bed, bursting into tears.
"What's going on?" I asked between sobs.
"I don't know." He ran his fingers through his thick black hair. "Was that your dream out there or was it just a freak accident?" He paused. "Listen, you have to tell me what you dream. I'll be staying here with you every night from now on. Now that they know our kind is among them, they'll stop at nothing until they finish us off."
All I could do was try to calm him down. I stood up and walked over to him. Carefully, I slipped my arms around his waist and laid my head on his chest. All I could hear was the soft sound of his breathing, no heartbeat. We didn't have heartbeats. We were dead and breathing was just a habit we did to blend in. I looked up into his beautiful butterscotch colored eyes. Warmth ran through my cold blood. I don't know how it happened but somehow our lips met. At first I was startled, but then accepted it. Hey, if we were going to die might as well have a first kiss.
Twilight came, then evening. I crawled into bed with John sitting close by on a chair reading a book. I smiled at him and he smiled back. I laid my head on the pillow and drifted off into sleep. I don’t know when I woke up but I did know I had the dream again. Like always, I woke up screaming and drenched in sweat. I sat up and placed my head in my hands.
“Why am I having these dreams?” I thought to myself, “I’m not the one Isabelle was. John can read minds, Danny had the ability to calm the atmosphere around people, and all I can do is run with the wind. But I still don’t ge–” A knock on the door interrupted my thoughts.
