North of Somewhere (A Story) – (Chapter: Consequences…)

“Ashley told you she loved you? Wow. That’s a pretty big deal for her.”

“Hello! She told me after she kissed some other girl, Aiden!” Spencer practically screamed.

“Oh…right,” Aiden replied with a grin.

“I haven’t seen her since last night…when I sort of broke up with her.”

    “You broke up with her?!”

“Well, like I said, sort of.”

    “What does that mean exactly?”

“Well, she asked me if we were over and I said yeah…but then I said that I didn’t know what I wanted…then she told me to take all the time I needed…but then…”

“Ok…ok. I get the picture. If I know Ashley, she’s probably off doing something self-destructive.”

No sooner had the words left his mouth, did a happy-looking Ashley Davies plop down beside him on the bench.

“Hey guys,” she said with a smile.

Spencer couldn’t help but notice how at ease she looked, how collected…how overwhelmingly hot.

“Hey,” Aiden replied with a nod.

The next few seconds were awkward, Spencer glaring at Ashley, Ashley smiling at Aiden, Aiden glancing back and forth between the two girls.

“So…did I miss anything good? Fights? Drug busts? Child birthing?” Ashley asked.

“Nah, I think it’s been a pretty average day,” Aiden replied as he considered letting the girls have some time to talk things out.

“Where have you been?” Spencer asked, her expression so intense that just for a moment Ashley was a little afraid.

    “Why?”

    “I’m just curious, that’s all.”

“If you must know, I was at Erin’s. I stayed there last night,” Ashley said bluntly, obviously trying to hurt Spencer the way she had been hurt.

Spencer got up and walked quickly away from the table. She could feel the tears coming and she refused to cry in front of Ashley.

“She’ll get over it,” Ashley said calmly, but Aiden wasn’t fooled for a second.

“Ash, don’t do this to her, ok? You know she doesn’t deserve it.”

“Do what? She knew going into this what kind of girl I am. No one should be surprised, not even you.”

“She told me what happened. Who was it?”

    “Erin.”

“Erin? You’ve got to be fucking kidding me, Ashley! You know she’s nothing but trouble.”

    “We’re actually a lot alike.”

“No, you’re not like that. I know that and you know that…. Spencer knows that.”

“Spencer doesn’t know anything about me, Aiden.”

Aiden stared into Ashley’s eyes, trying to figure out what was going on in her head. He knew that she loved Spencer and he knew that she was hurting. Most of all, he knew that she needed a friend.

“Come here,” he said, pulling Ashley into a hug.

    “What…what are you doing? I don’t…”

“Ashley, just drop it, ok? Drop it.”

Ashley said nothing, instead hugging Aiden back, her head resting on his shoulder.

“Let it out,” he said as he held her, finally feeling her tears being absorbed into the cotton of his shirt.

    1. nice. hits closer to home that we’d all like to admit. not to this extreme where go and bang bang someone else but like the universal silent treatment strategy that just makes everyone annoyed, even the person employing it.

    3. You have balls I will say that…..this is so true to Ashley’s character, but not many writers have the balls to actually put that Ashley basically cheats on Spencer. Even though she didn’t really because they weren’t actually together it is still basically cheating. Good on you Mate. (Its like my new phrase lol)
