Singing Bridges (We All Fall) – (Chapter: And when my eyes are paralyzed I'll stare up at you my star)

“Ashley, you know that’s not true… you know I’m a virgin still.”

Ashley looked at Spencer and locked eyes. “Spencer, I just need time to think about this. I mean, I almost died, and you did absolutely nothing to help me. You just stood their, letting it happen. I know that there’s more to us than you say, but I can’t keep waiting forever. I just keep getting hurt and I don’t know how much more I can handle. Please just understand that this isn’t easy for me to do Spencer. I’m letting go of something I promised myself I would never let go of.” Spencer looked at Ashley confused. “What’s that Ash?” Ashley sighed and looked towards the door where Arthur and Paula were still standing outside of. “I’m letting go of the people who I love more than anything else in this world. I’m letting go of a family that I never had. I’m letting go of a life that has treated me so well up until now. I’m letting go of a love that I thought could survive anything. I guess I was wrong. I guess we don’t even have a love close to that if I can just let it go. But like I said, it’s for the best. I need to learn what it’s like to be alone, because it’s what I’m supposed to be, what I’m meant to be. I was alone up until I met you, so I just need to get back to being used to the feeling.”

Spencer started crying again, knowing that if Ashley is alone for too long, she’ll go back to how she used to be when Spencer first met her; a druggie who fucked any girl she saw. Spencer didn’t want that for Ashley, but knew that she was right. How could she hold on to a love that couldn’t happen when Spencer was so afraid to even consider fully being with Ashley? “Ok Ash, if this is really what you want, I’ll do it. And maybe, someday, we’ll meet up again. I know we’re meant to be friends, Ash. I just know it.” Spencer released Ashley’s hand and started to get up. “No Spencer, we’re not meant to be friends and you know it. We’re meant to be more than that, but if you can’t see it, then maybe we won’t meet up later on in life. Maybe this really is the end for us. And I know how much your family means to you, I really do. So I get it, I get that you’d rather have your family than your best friend. I just want you to know that I’ll always love you Spencer Carlin. Forever and a day.”
