Stranger – (Chapter: Where Am I?)

“I’m not sure. I’ve known them my whole life so I just never thought about it. Last night was different though. My mom has been sick all year but last night was the worst shape I’ve ever seen her in. I had to escape so I did. Why I’m telling you all this I’m not sure.” I spoke with a slight tear forming in my eye as she served me breakfast. I felt her arms wrap around me and for the first time in a while I felt my body relax. As my tears began to fall I felt her guide me to the couch. She laid down with me as I cried, why does this girl care so much I don’t understand. But for the first time I feel loved, I feel safe, I don’t feel the need to run away. We fell back asleep and woke up on the floor.

“Do you mind if I shower here?” I wasn’t ready to leave. “Sure let me get you some comfortable clothes.” How did I luck out to meet such a caring person? Why does she care about me she doesn’t even know me and from what she says I’ve never been really nice to her. After eating I take a nice long shower. My muscles relaxed as soon as the hot water touched me. When I walked into the living room she was sitting on her couch watching TV.

“I can take you to your car if you need,” she offered. There’s something about this girl that I can’t stop myself from opening up to her. Maybe it’s the kindness in her voice or the softness of her eyes. “I didn’t take my car last night. My cell phone is dead do you mind my using your phone?” Her eyes are questioning me as I speak. “I can call a taxi.”

She chuckles a bit, “I can drive you home if you’d like.” Her offer is nice and it would save me the money. “I don’t really have a home to go to. If you don’t mind can you take me to Saint Mary’s Hospital?” She looks a bit concerned. “My mom is there.”

“Of course,” is all she offers until she stands up. “We can talk on the way there.”
