    Surprise!

“Yep. So, are you two finally going to admit that you lied to me?” Jessica asked. A flash of confusion passed through me.

“Lied to you?” Edward and I asked in unison.

“Yeah, remember when you two first met in Junior year?”

“Yeah,” I said, recalling those days. They were pretty clear to me, probably because they included Edward. The clearest memories I had of my human life were the ones with him. Or the ones about him. For example, the catatonic state I was in when he left. He wasn’t doing much better then, either. I realized that Jessica was staring at me, probably just figuring out I wasn’t paying attention. “Oh, I’m sorry; I was just remembering my first days at Forks.” I flashed a quick wink at Edward that none of the humans could have possibly seen.

“Oh, you mean your first days with Edward? Don’t lie to me. I may not be that smart, but I can tell when someone’s lying to me about their love interest.” I started laughing.

“Yeah, yeah, you caught me!” This time Jessica was the one to laugh. “Okay, enough making fun of me. Let’s get back to the main topic. We never lied to you, Jess.”

“Right,” she said sarcastically. “Anyway, remember when Angela, you, and I went dress shopping for the girls’ choice dance? And then you went looking for a bookstore? And when you met us back at the Italian Restaurant, you had Edward with you?” I nodded. “By the way, I still need complete details of that night! Oh, and, the next morning you came to school walking with Edward, wearing his jacket. And then later you told me he surprised you both times.”

“Yeah, Jess, I remember all that. What about it?” I asked, exasperated.

“Well, why don’t you two admit it that you had planned it? Cause I really doubt you just happened to run into each other!”

“No, Jessica, it really wasn’t planned. I was driving down the street when I saw Bella being stalked by four pathetic men. I saved her from them and then drove her to the restaurant. I would’ve let her go home with you, but I was afraid that if she left my side, I would try to go and beat up those guys or something,” Edward said. I was shocked for a moment that Edward had told the truth, but then I realized that he knows what he’s doing and he would’ve lied if that were what was best.
