Teenage Wasteland – (Chapter: Out Here In The Fields)

“well I’ll make it short…why’d you stay friends?” she asked

“because he’s the only guys I’ve ever known that’s so caring and gentle…he knows when I need someone to talk to and when I need time alone…”

    “fair enough…” she said “…so go on…”

    “huh?”

    “your story?” she added

“right…uh got out of high school, I’m in a band, I dated Aiden…right, so I live in my own apartment and ever June I fly down to Louisiana for three weeks to help re-build houses and stuff for hurricane Katrina…”

“that’s really  sweet…” she told me

“yeah…I just love doing something for someone who’s been stuck with tragedy and hasn’t smiled for years now…seeing that smile on their face is just…it really changes who you are…”

“I bet…” she said simply “…so when did you become such a deep and caring person?” she asked me

“when did this become twenty questions?” I asked her smiling

“well sorry…I thought you wanted to talk…” she said

“I do…but what’s the fun in asking me questions when I can’t ask you questions that you’ll answer.” I replied

“um…here…” she said getting an idea “…for every rock you throw and make into that cup you get a question” she said pointing to a cup in the sand

“fine…” I told her going to sit a little closer to her “…after you…” I said then she took a rock and threw it and missed, then I took one and I made it “…ooh boo and yah”

“okay, ask one” she told me

“favorite television show growing up…” I told her

“um…random, but I’d have to say Full House…” she told me “…ooh! Or legends of the hidden temple”

“I hated that show” I told her

    “oh come on…it was awesome”

“yeah right…those kids were retarded…how did they get lost in the maze and not be able to swim across that pool…they had a kickboard” I told her

“okay, but when you’re like ten and you watch it…it can be intense”

“whatever…” I told her then I handed her a rock and she threw it and missed again then I threw and missed and she made the next one “…finally” I told her

“okay…since you’re the music artist…who are the influences?” she asked me

    “um…everyone” I told her

“okay…and that answer sucked” she told me

    “why?” I asked her laughing

“you can’t just say everyone…you need to be specific”

“not really…” I told her “…you want to hear why it’s everyone?”

    “I guess” she said

“because music is music…the passion that goes into it…I mean people play because they love and it and I respect that more than anything…so hence my influence is everyone that has ever made an album, or who has taken their music all over the world…”

“wow…that was deep” she told me

“yeah well…when the weed wears off I get deep” I said making her laugh then for a second our eyes locked and I don’t know what it was…but there was something there

“it’s uh…your turn” she said looking away

“right…” I said taking a rock and throwing it and making it “…have you ever kissed a girl?” I asked her

    “yes.” she told me

“have you ever dated a girl?” I asked

“two questions in a row is against game rules…” she told me

“okay fair enough…it’s your turn” I told her

“actually…I’m kind of tired…” she said getting up

“are you kidding?” I asked her really wanting another chance to make one and figure out if she’s ever dated a girl

“it’s late…” she told me “…but maybe I’ll see you in the morning” she said smiling at me

“hopefully…” I said as she was walking away

‘it was nice meeting you Ashley Davies!” she yelled then I sat there smiling to myself
