The Agent – (Chapter: Kill two birds with one bullet)
I heard the shower going and knew this was my time to leave without Spencer asking any questions. Moving to the table, I found hotel stationery and scribbled a quick note for Spencer.
“Gone out for a few hours, STAY INDOORS!”
I grabbed the backpack and left the room, praying Spencer would not get into any trouble while I was gone.
I headed to the closest mall. It was a busy day, so blending in was easy for me. I went into the first convenience store I could find and bought a phone and starter pack. Nobody would be able to trace me, at least not for a couple of hours. I dialed Aiden’s number and felt the blood drain from my face when it wasn’t his voice that answered. I wanted to hang up, but a voice stopped me.
It was The Head. This wasn’t good at all.
“Agent Davies, is that you?” His voice was so cold. I felt a shiver run up my spine.
“Yes.” I had to answer. I needed to know where Aiden was…and if he was okay.
“I knew it wouldn’t be long before you contacted us. Is the girl still with you?”
“No.”
“Don’t lie to me. Tell me where you are.”
“I can’t. You’ll kill her.”
His voice was so loud now, angry. I was suddenly filled with indescribable fear.
“No agent, you’ve got it all wrong. I have something better planned. I won’t be the one killing her. Listen closely because I’m only going to say this once. You are going to kill that girl. I don’t care how you do it as long as it happens. And then, Agent Davies, you are going to kill yourself. Do you understand?"
“What?” This couldn’t be happening; I stood there dead still in complete shock.
“Do you think I’m going to waste my time sending my agents after you?” He started laughing a cold evil laugh. “Now, why would I do that when you’re perfectly equipped to do the job yourself?” I could feel my chest closing up, breathing normally was now a battle.
“I can’t kill her,” I choked out.
“Why not? You’ve done it before. What’s so special about this one?”
I was silent, taking in everything that was being said. I didn’t know what made her special. There was just something about her.
