“What…” Spencer managed to breathe as she stared at the toys.
Ashley cleared her throat, “Since we’re working, Sammy is going to need something to do.”
“So you bought all this?” Spencer pulled her eyes away from the toys to stare at Ashley in absolute wonder.
Ashley shrugged, “I wanted to make sure we’d be able to get some work done. Kids can be distracting.”
Sammy wiggled to get out of her mother’s arms, “Can I pway with it?”
“Go ahead,” Ashley smiled at the little girl. “They’re for you.”
Spencer put Sammy down and watched her teeter over to the massive pile of toys.
“Miss Davies, you really didn’t have to—“
“It’s nothing, Spencer,” Ashley cut her off brusquely. “Let’s get to work.”
Spencer followed her boss to a couch in the living room. She took a seat next to Ashley, removing the strap of her attaché from her shoulder and pulling out a pile of resumes.
“All those people applied for the job?” Ashley asked as Spencer set two stacks on the coffee table. She’d made copies of the resumes and put them in order, a stack for her and a stack for Ashley.
“No. This is just the first bundle,” Spencer said, patting her half-full case.
“This is going to take awhile,” Ashley sighed. “Do you want anything to drink?”
“Um, sure. Do you want me to…” Spencer started to stand up to get the drinks herself, but Ashley caught her shoulder and gently pushed her back down.
“I got it,” Ashley said, getting up. “You’re a Coke Zero fanatic, right?”
“Yeah, but I’ll take whatever you have.”
“I have it.” Ashley said as she headed to the kitchen.
Spencer paused in thought.
“But I thought you hated diet drinks,” she called out to Ashley in the kitchen.
“I do.” Ashley said over clanking glasses.
A few minutes later, Ashley returned with their drinks and a juice box, setting them down on the coffee table.
“You have juice boxes?” Spencer asked.
“Yeah, for the kid.”
Spencer stared at Ashley, questions hammering away at her mind. Her boss seemed to be going to a lot of trouble to make her and Sammy feel comfortable. She wondered if it was out of pity. And, if so, just how much she had told Ashley about the marks that night. The thought made her uncomfortable, and she scooted back a little.

Ugh! It’s never enough!! I’m addicted and they came so close but are still so far!! Excellent update. I love how Sammy is warming to Ash but only after pulling out her hair, that made me laugh as did Ash sitting in the tiny chair ;0) BUT Spencer needs to talk to someone and who better to kick ass than Ashley D?!?!

Wow. This story is awesome. You are a fantastic writer. Usually I don’t leave comments, I know it’s really bad but your story is so good that I just have to. I’m so glad that Spencer gets to see a different side to Ashley. So when can we get a Ashley and Carmen meeting? Either way, I can’t wait for more.
Aghhhhh! Spencer first the creepy guy that wants something for money. Who sent him? Second Carmen fourteen phone calls Really!!! I love that Ash is trying to show spencer a different side of her. Plus she got Spencer to feel all up on her in the kitchen.( GO Ash ). Spencer needs to talk to someone and soon. I love this story Post soon

oh man that was excellent. I think they’ve taken at least a baby step with each other. it was great how ash was all prepared to have sammy over and I knew that was why sammy was acting that way. spence should open up to ash and I can’t wait to see what’s in the envelope. awesome job, pms please!!
