The best year ever – (Chapter: Reasons)

Through the pain and fights and long long nights

With me by your side, it’s enough just enough to make me fly

    (Chorus)

    Cause you’re my reason

    My reason to breathe

    Cause you’re my reason

    My reason to believe

    Cause you’re my reason

    My reason to be free

As Ashley continued to sing Spencer felt her heart swell at the lyrics, like she was seeing Ashley open and vulnerable for the first time.  She couldn’t help it and she slowly made her way around Aiden who put his arm around her and smiled.  Spencer smiled up at him and when she looked back at the stage she looked Ashley right in the eye who beamed as she sang the chorus and kept her eyes trained on Spencer for the duration of the song singing as if she was singing just to Spencer.

    A day, a week, a memory, a lifetime ago

Someone said you were the one, the one I shouldn’t let go

Not fate or luck or even destiny could be that strong

I didn’t want to believe, I thought that they were wrong

Broken hearts and sad love songs and lullabies

The stuff that dreams are made of just kept passing me by

You walked in and changed all that with one look in your eye

And now I thank you, thank you, for the strength to try

    (Chorus)

And now I thank you, thank you, for the strength to try

Thank you, thank you…you’re the reason why…

The music faded and the place exploded in applause and cheers.  Even Sam and the other judges all stood up and were clapping and cheering along with the rest of the crowd who were already shouting that Ashley should be the winner. They chanted her name as Ashley ran off the stage and into Spencer’s arms who was waiting in the wings.

    “What happened to San Diego???”

    “Clay…”

    “Huh?!?!?”

    “Never mind…”

Spencer kissed Ashley with everything she had.  Aiden had made his way over by this point and soon the three of them were in a huge bear hug.  The didn’t even notice the other people around them screaming for Ashley.  The trio looked up at Sam who was on stage announcing the winner.

“Okay after some awesome performances tonight the judges have finally reached a decision.  The winner of the House of Blues amateur contest and the winner of $1000 AND an audition with Tower Records is…”

Spencer held her breath and Ashley’s hand in a death grip as Ashley tried to wiggle her hand free and regain feeling to her fingers.

    “Miss Ashley Davies!!!”

The place exploded again and Spencer and Aiden both turned to Ashley and practically screamed at her.

    “Oh my God Ash!!!”

    “Congratulations Ashley!!!”

    “Holy shit I won…”

Ashley looked a little star struck as she walked up to the stage and took the cash from Sam.  Sam gave Ashley a big hug and turned the mike over to her.

“Holy cow…um…thanks everyone…thanks to the judges…um…wow…I just wanted to say thanks to all of you…”

Ashley looked over at Spencer and winked.

“And especially thanks to the person who gave me a reason to be here today…”

The crowd erupted again as Ashley ran offstage and scooped Spencer up in her arms.  For all the pain and suffering and heartache she had endured Ashley finally, finally believed…she had found her reason to believe.
