The College Life – (Chapter: Chapter 11: Desperation)
“Hey. You look great.” He says with a smile.
“Thanks. You look great too.” I say returning the smile.
“So I was thinking of this restaurant I rode by downtown?”
“Yeah, I don’t care.” I say rather quickly. “Just as long as I’m there with you.” Okay, I know that I’m probably forcing this a little too much but I can’t help it, this seems to be the only way I can Ashley out of my head, even if for just second.
We walk to the restaurant hand in hand, and I try to make myself feel as comfortable as possible. We take a seat at a small candlelit table, a setting a little too intimate for my taste but I let it slide. Aiden was still his charming self, throwing out flattery like it’s on sale. I mean I didn’t mind the flirting, it was nice and comforting. I must say being at a nice restaurant with a cute and charming guy wasn’t all that bad. But whenever he made a gesture of flattery towards me I couldn’t help but imagine Ashley saying it to me and then I would get the feeling of butterflies in my stomach and look up to reveal that it was only Aiden sitting on the other side of the table and the feeling would subside. Why, oh why, does life have to be so confusing? I think after a while Aiden caught on.
“Are you okay?” He asked after he sensed the awkwardness coming from my side of the table.
“Yeah, I’m fine.” I answer with a shaky smile.
“Well might I ask you why you wanted to come out with me tonight? I figured after you talked to Ashley…”
“Forget about Ashley. I’m here with you because I want to be here with you. This doesn’t have anything to do with Ashley.” I lie.
“Okay, well did you want to go back to my place after this?”
“Sure, that sounds good.”
We get done eating and he pays the bill, such a gentleman. We walk back to his dorm that’s on the other side of campus then mine. I follow him in the dark room as he flips a switch powering on the lights. After we get in the room Aiden rushes to his side of the room to straighten up piles of clothes and books that have puddled on the floor. I look around the normal looking male dorm room, posters of sports figures on the wall accompanied with one of a female supermodel wearing next to nothing. I sigh as I look at it, after hearing it Aiden looked at me and followed my eyes to the poster.
