This Must Be It … Welcome To the New Year – (Chapter: 2: We’d Never Have To Wonder If We Missed Out On Each Other)

Spencer lay on her bed staring up at the ceiling, she watched as the fan spun round and round. Colbie Caillat’s soft voice spilled from the speakers in the corner of her room and Spencer who was clad only in a tank top and boxer shorts shivered in the evening air. The blonde was too tired to move though and whispered the lyrics unconsciously.

    If you just realize
    What I just realized

The young girl rolled onto her stomach and hugged her pillow pressing her lips tightly against the cotton fabric.

That we’d be perfect for each other
    And we’ll never find another

    She mumbled softly.

    Just realize
    What I just realized

Her eyes began to water, and she curled her self into a ball.

    We’d never have to wonder
If we missed out on each other, now

Another Valentine’s Day alone at home, what a waste. Spencer thought to her self. The rest of the Carlin clan had plans for the night so Spencer was left at home to her own devices. She had no plans, not that she had actively looked for a Valentine, but still she felt pathetic laying at home in her pjs at seven in the evening. She was starting to think she should have agreed to go out to dinner with her parents. But then I’d just be putting a damper on their evening, plus I’m not exactly happy-go-lucky at the moment as it is.

The blonde was miserable, thinking of the romantic plans she was sure Ashley had arranged for Leslie. The brunette would never let a holiday go by without some grand romantic gesture for her girl. Last Valentines Day she had whisked Meredith off to a Bed and Breakfast, for Labor Day she had arranged a weekend in Napa for Becky, last Christmas she had set up a carriage ride through the park for Leslie. No, Ashley Davies never did anything half-ass when it came to her girlfriends.

Which is why Spencer was surprised when the door to her bedroom opened, the skinny brunette standing awkwardly in the doorway. Spencer tried to stifle her sniffles, looking away from Ashley nervously. God, she can’t see me crying. “What are you doing here?” she asked.

Ashley frowned as she noticed her friend trembling on the bed. She walked into the room, and placed a non-descript brown paper bag on the ground. Moving quietly to the bed sitting down, Ashley rubbed circles on the blondes back trying to sooth her.
