This Must Be It … Welcome To the New Year – (Chapter: 2: We’d Never Have To Wonder If We Missed Out On Each Other)

“Oh no don’t worry about it” Spencer said as she scooted to the edge of the bed. “What’s in the bag?”

“Provisions” Ashley said with a devilish grin, picking up the bag and dumping it’s contents onto the mattress.

“Ashley… You don’t hate Valentine’s Day … you love it infact. So much that I had to pretty much convince you to not by out the entire candy aisle last year. What gives?”

“Spencer … I hate Valentine’s day! Relationships … well they are just stupid. I don’t know why anyone would want to get in them to begin with. All the lovey duvy phone calls with the ‘you hang up first, no you hang up first’ goodbyes, the constant attention, the monogamy. I mean really, why would anyone ever want to fall in love? Love is gross!” The brunette said throwing her arms up in the air dramatically.

“Ok you are by far the worst liar ever” She said as she picked up a copy of ‘A Nightmare on Elmstreet’ that Ashley had brought with her. “What’s the real reason?”

Ashley laughed, “I knew you weren’t too keen on the whole holiday but I wanted to hang out. Soooo” she droned, “will you be my anti-Valentine?” The brunette asked sweetly. “I brought markers!” She said holding up a box of crayolas, “we can make each other ‘Love Sucks’ cards!”

Spencer giggled, “Sounds like a plan”

The two girls opened up a package of Twizzlers that Ashley had brought and began to color, laughing at the other’s weak attempts and bloody hearts.

“That looks ridiculous!” Ashley exclaimed as Spencer put the finishing touches on her card. “What is that supposed to be anyways?”

“It’s an emo heart!” Spencer cried, giggling.

“Spence you’re insane!” Ashley laughed. “Wait did you draw your heart with emo hair?”

“Umm” Spencer hid the card behind her back, “nooooo”

    “You so did!”

    Spencer smiled, “maybe”

Ashley clutched her stomach and started to laugh.

    “Hey! It’s not funny!”

“You’re right, it’s not … it’s horrible and miserable and sad and I just wanna slit my wrists cause … love sucks!” Ashley replied.

Spencer smiled and looked down at her card, and wrote a note on the inside. She handed it to the brunette who smiled and looked at her curiously. Ashley opened the card, “You make my heart go boom boom”

Ashley laughed and started to pick up the markers, “How come we never dated Spence” she asked casually.

Spencer was a little taken aback by the question, but played it off casually. “Cause you’re too high maintenance Davies”

Ashley looked up at her a little more seriously, “No really, why? We’re the best of friends, we totally get each other”

“I don’t know … you have Leslie and you love her” Spencer replied.

Ashley nodded and picked up a twizzler, taking a bite out of it. “Yeah”

“But enough of all this relationship talk, its Anti-Valentine’s Day remember? … Love is gross”

Ashley smiled, “You’re right love is so gross!”

Suddenly the brunette’s phone began to ring and she apologized, slipping it out of her pocket.

“Hello?” she asked. Her face lit up and the older girl began to smile brightly. “Hey babe, how’s your day going?” Ashley stood up and walked into the hallway for a little privacy. “Happy Valentine’s Day baby … No no don’t worry about it I completely understand you know that. How’s your Grandpa? … Thank God, I was worried. Are you gonna be coming home later tonight? Oh … ok then. No it’s fine I can see you tomorrow…” Ashley began to pace up and down the hallway. “Leslie” the brunette hissed, “Oh God don’t say that” Ashley groaned, “of course I want you” Spencer watched as Ashley’s cheeks turned red from blushing. “I love you, I’ll see you tomorrow? … Ok, no you hang up …” Ashley giggled, “Noooo, you hang up”

Spencer groaned and fell back onto the carpet, it would be another ten minutes before the brunette even got off the phone.
