    And then I chased after her…

     

                Ever since that last Thursday, thoughts of Ashley never strayed too far from the blonde’s mind. Spencer desperately tried to figure out what could have possibly happened during that appointment, but it was no use. She would never know, because, unfortunately, all of the sessions have guaranteed patient confidentiality. Asking Ashley would be the only way to find out. However, as the days after that Thursday turned into a week, the brunette didn’t show up for her next appointment. Spencer had been waiting around all day for her appearance. She roamed around the office with nervousness and anticipation, anxious to see what type of mood the girl would display, but Ashley never showed.

     

                The days rolled by and eventually another week passed. By now, Spencer had become a nervous wreck. The brunette, once again, did not show for her appointment, and Spencer was a mess around the office. Glenda was forced to yell at the blonde several times about misplacing papers, and her manager threatened to fire her after she faxed important documents to the wrong address. Things were becoming chaotic. Finally, Spencer reached the realization that Ashley wouldn’t return.

     

                By the third Thursday, Spencer was back on normal track. The blonde was typing away at the computer, bored out of her mind, when a patient came in.

     

    “Name Please,” was Spencer’s dull, programmed statement.

     

    “Ashley Davies”

     

    Spencer’s eyes bulged out, as her head shot upwards from the monitor so fast, one would be afraid that the girl received whiplash. She couldn’t believe the person standing in front of her.

     

    “Ashley?”

     

    “Hey Spence.” It wasn’t flirtatious. It wasn’t humorous. It wasn’t even a sarcastic remark. And with that simple comment, the brunette walked away, and into the back office.

     

                Spencer was left dumbfounded. She couldn’t believe what just happened. The concept that Ashley was there in the first place was hard to grasp. But something was still off. Ashley’s remark had been friendly, but it felt like something was missing. Her tone, and whole body presence altogether, lacked their usual energy. The fire that normally burned behind those chocolate brown eyes ceased to exist, and instead seemed to hold an abnormal array of sadness and exhaustion. For some unknown reason, this feeling made Spencer’s heart sink.
