A week later, and there was still nothing to show for all their searching. Sam sighed and called the wolves back to their meeting spot in La Push. They would discuss what they thought was going to happen and plans of action in order to stop this problem before it could begin when they knew nothing on the matter.
Once everyone had returned to human forms and dressed, Sam began the meeting. The werewolves sat on the logs or rocks surrounding the area, silence enveloping them for several moments.
“We don't know anything,” Sam said finally. “We've searched everywhere, even done some investigations without changing, and yet there's still nothing to show for it. Even the humans are noticing, Charlie said he felt something wasn't right.”
Jacob flinched at the name. The group knew he meant Charlie Swan, and Jacob really could've done without the extra reminder of Bella. She already dominated his thoughts every second of every day. Wasn't that enough?
Sam ignored the flinch and continued on. “Jacob, has Billy got anything to say?”
Jacob shook his head. “He's been with C-Charlie lately. He said he was interrogating him for any clues, but so far neither has any idea what's going on.”
If the wolves noticed his stutter, they didn't comment. Though, Embry and Quil did pat his back consolingly. He smiled thankfully at the two, though he wished they hadn't made a move signifying they noticed. He at least wanted to pretend like he hid his pain well!
“I have an idea…” Sam muttered. The wolves quieted immediately and turned to face their alpha. He sighed and looked at Jacob. The latter shook his head, realization dawning.
“No,” he whispered. “No. No! NO! We can't!”
“We may not have any other choice,” Sam growled. Jacob started to protest more, but Embry cut him off with a sharp jab in the stomach. It wasn't smart to argue with the alpha over personal issues, and even if no one quite realized what Sam was planning, it was obvious Jacob didn't like the idea one bit.
“What's this great plan?” Jared asked curiously. Sam took a deep breath and eyed each of the wolves.
“We're going to the Swan's,” he said sternly, leaving no room for arguments. “So far, every time trouble has come calling, Bella has been in it. I wouldn't be surprised if she's in it now too.”
