    Why Can’t I? – (Chapter: Chapter Twelve)

Spencer froze. She had not realized that she would have to go face to face with Summer.

“Uhm…now? Against…against Su- Summer?” Spencer choked out nervously looking over at Summer who was sitting a few rows ahead of her.

“Aw, why not Spencie?” Summer mocked. “What? You think you’re going to steal my title? Come on, don’t worry about it! Its one of the only good things I have left, take it.” Summer said as she walked to the front of the room and stood behind her respected podium. Spencer sighed knowing there was no way to get out of this one. She approached her podium and waited for the debate topic.

“Okay ladies! Isn’t this exciting?” Mr. Witchenstrom asked. Both girls just glared at him and he nervously looked down at his sheet. “Okay anyways…your topic is…men using condoms in third world countries where it is against their religion. Summer, you will defend using them, and Spencer, you will oppose using them. Understood? Good! Begin!”

“Uh well…men should not be forced to use them if it’s against there religion…” Spencer said lamely. She was so frightened of what Summer could do to her, and she also thought it ridiculous that men not use condoms, so this wasn’t the best situation for her.

“Well, should women be forced to receive a desiese like AIDS? I mean, I don’t expect you to know what its like to have something that voile thrown on you, because you seem to be the awful thing that just throws yourself on other people.” Summer said glaring at her. Most of the class had zoned them out anyways, and Mr. Witchenstrom looked thoroughly confused.

“Well…” Spencer said not really knowing what to say.

“Well? Is that all you can say? How about thinking about what not protecting yourself could do to you? How about thinking that everything was completely fine, not worrying about having your life ruined, and then watch it crash around you! Not being prepared, not being safe, and apparently not seeing what was right in front of you! For being stupid? Is that what you would call it Spencer?” Summer said finally yelling at her. No one else in the room seemed to understand her hidden meaning behind her words, but Spencer knew Ashley was the only look on Summer’s mind.
