    Ya Never Know… – (Chapter: 5)

“Do you know where she lives?”  Abby asked quietly into Neela’s ear.

Wilsher Lane!”  Ray yelled to them and Robbi leaned up against her car thankful that she wasn’t working until noon.  She held up her keys and waved them to Abby.  Abby took them and looked at the brand new Lexus SUV parked before them.

“You can drive a stick?”  She asked and Neela shook her head no and Abby nodded.

“I can.  I can drop these two off and I can bring you home, I’ll take a cab from there.”  Abby said and they all got into the car without further discussion.  Ray was telling Robbi about his band and she was telling him that she’d sung in a band in college.

Abby dropped off the drunken Ray and Neela at their apartment then began to drive to the more expensive part of town.  Robbi was curled up onto the seat and dozing quietly, Abby realizing again with a sickening turn, that she was stunningly beautiful.  She suddenly couldn’t pull her eyes away from her and when her attention snapped back to the road she was inches from a parked car on the side of the street.

Abby wrenched the wheel to the left clutching and down shifting the tires finding purchase on the slick pavement.  The car rolled left and the rear end fishtailed right.  Robbi awoke with a start as Abby righted the car Robbi grabbed hold of the seat and closed her eyes.

“Oh god, oh god, ok.  We’re good.”  A pause then.  “Yeah, next house on the right.”  Abby said her shaking hand snapping the radio off.  Robbi opened one eye.  She had to remind herself to breath and the panic hit her hard.  The world faded in and out in a mosaic of colors and she felt the evening’s food and alcohol rolling in her stomach.

Robbi’s fingers fumbled for the windows but she found the lock button instead, cursing herself softly as she willed her fingers to move.  Abby turned into the driveway quickly.  Before Abby had a chance to stop the car, Robbi threw herself out of the moving car.  She landed hard on her knees and heaved.  Her fingers clawed at the newly laid sod in the front yard the world spinning hard on its axis.  Abby pulled the hand brake fast and scurried around the car.
