I found strength in the solid touch of her hand on my shoulder. ’I will let you out.’ I said to Doctor Renault.
’Once again, I’m sorry for your loss, Mrs. Porter,’ he said, his steps taking him toward the door. Just before leaving, he turned back to me. ’You once asked me what I do after a day like this. On my way home, I buy flowers for my wife and visit the cemetery.” He swallowed, his gaze momentarily distant. ’And then, I pour a glass of the wine she used to enjoy and reflect on her memory.’
’I..’ I stammered.
His voice held a gentle steadiness. ’She passed away two years ago. Every patient I couldn’t save, I see a bit of her in them. So, I can imagine the pain you’re going through.’
My gaze shifted to the living room, where Tina sat by Renee’s bedside, our eyes met and an unspoken language passed between us, a silent exchange of emotions that words could never fully capture. ’I can’t even begin to fathom your pain,’ I whispered, my voice barely audible. ’Thank you for everything.’
With a final nod, Doctor Renault departed, and as the door closed behind him, the room retained its quietude. Turning back, I reentered the living room, finding solace and comfort in Tina’s loving arms.

Kneeling down at Renee´s grave, with a bouquet of flowers in my hand, I traced my fingers along the engraved letters of her name, feeling the cool touch of the stone beneath my fingertips. A bittersweet smile played upon my lips as I arranged the flowers, their vibrant colors a stark contrast to the muted hues of the surroundingse. Funny how flowers were always an ever-present companion on one´s journey through life, casting their ephemeral beauty upon each significant moment, weaving a delicate thread throughout a whole life. Birthdays, weddings, sickness, celebrations, death and even in the afterlife. They marked dissapointments and celebrations. Beginnings, endings and fresh starts. I rose up after replacing the dry flowers for new ones. ’I miss her.’ I said.
’Are you ok?’ Tina asked.
I thought about it for a moment, as we left the graveyard. Each passing day took a fragment of pain, maybe because I had time to see Renee’s end coming, and she had lived a rich life. ’I will be soon.’ I answered. ’And I have you.’ As we passed the exit of the graveyard Tina´s fingers laced with mine.

What a beautiful end!
Well written story, i would like it if there were many more chapters.
Maybe a sequel?
Thank you so much for this story. I sincerely hope you both will write more!
Thank you so much for this story, even though I kept waiting for the other one to be finished, this was also a great solution. I felt like the original version was a bit more angsty than this one, but I’m not sure.
You write beautiful stories and I hope we can keep reading your work.
Loved this story❣️
Beautiful ending. Enjoyed your story.
I so enjoyed your story. The only thing I don’t like is that it is over.
