’I’m not so sure there will be another one.’ I said, tucking away a few errant tendrils of sweat-dampened hair.

’Of course there will be.’ she retorted with an unexpected vigor, defying me till the last moment.

’I’m scared Renee.’ I confessed, scared for the impending end and equally for a possible new beginning.

’Tina is stronger than you think.’ Her weary eyes shimmered with a playful glint. ’She’s with you after all, it takes a strong woman to deal with you. You’re a hand full.’

My gaze lingered on her, tracing the contours of her emaciated frame beneath the sheets. Once surrounded by admirers, she had been a vision of grace, her elongated cheekbones and dark hair painting a portrait of timeless beauty. Her eyes, capable of quelling my storms with a mere glance, had overseen the hotel with an unwavering grip. ’You were strong too once.’

’We did well, you and me, considering all.’ She managed a smile, absorbing every inch of my face adoringly.

’We did.’ I said, pressing a tender kiss to her hand. ’I was so lucky to have you.’

’You were the joy of my life.’ Her eyelids fluttered closed. The music’s melody waned, and the tonearm returned to its resting position. ’Play it again.’ She whispered.

And I did, watching over her as she slept, the echoes of timeless music hovering in the air.

The room seemed to hold its breath, as if acknowledging the sacredness of the moment.

Doctor Renault removed his stethoscope and draped it around his neck. ’My condolences.’ He said with a fitting sober look.

A soft, ethereal light filtered through the curtains, casting a gentle glow upon Renee’s face. The lines etched by Renee’s life journey had softened, and a serene tranquility had settled over her features. It was a stark contrast to the lively spirit she had once embodied.

Her skin was cool to the touch. My trembling hand slowly released hers. The rise and fall of her chest was stilled, but the memory of her laughter, her voice, and most of all her embrace, was etched deep within my heart.

Tina bit down hard on her trembling lip, yet her voice was remarkably strong. ’Thank you doctor.’

    2. Thank you so much for this story, even though I kept waiting for the other one to be finished, this was also a great solution. I felt like the original version was a bit more angsty than this one, but I’m not sure.
You write beautiful stories and I hope we can keep reading your work.
