“Bette?” whispered Tina.
Getting no response, she lifted her head off of Bette’s chest and peered down into her closed eyes.
“Babe?” she said, this time, a little louder, resting her hand lightly on Bette’s bare breast.
Bette’s eyes slowly fluttered open as she registered Tina hovering above her.
“You awake?” asked Tina as she smiled down at her.
“Do you want me to be?” she sleepily asked as she allowed her eyes to fall shut again.
Propping her head up on her hand, Tina watched her sleepy wife as she lightly dragged her fingertips across Bette’s breast, nipple immediately hardening from the sensation.
“Hmmm” moaned Bette, eyes still closed.
Knowing that this may not be the best time to try and have a serious conversation, Tina debated wakening Bette further or just letting her fall asleep.
They had been making love for the last three hours and both were exhausted, the most recent round eliciting powerful orgasms from both women leading to Bette’s current state.
Try as she might though, she knew that she would never be able to sleep until she cleared her mind of what was presently jumbling it.
“Baby?” said Tina as she leaned down and placed her lips on Bette’s, leaving the softest of kisses, not meant to arouse, but simply to let Bette know that she was there.
“What’s up, T?” Bette groggily asked, eyes still closed and head turned away from Tina.
“I need to talk to you” whispered Tina.
“Now?” groaned Bette as she slowly turned her head back towards Tina.
“Yes, baby. Now.”

“I know what time it is Bette” said Tina, no hint of a smile in her voice.
Hearing the tone coming from Tina, Bette gave her her full attention and just said, “What’s going on, T?”
With her hand resting on Bette’s stomach, Tina looked down at Bette and said, “You said something at dinner tonight that I let go at the time, but now, would like to discuss.”
“Ok” said Bette, having truly no idea what she had said to upset Tina like this.

I’ve figured out what makes this story distinctive (besides your skillful writing), and what I really like about it: This is an Adult story, told by mature, adult women. Your B&T most closely approximate the characters’ ages on the show.
I am so comfortable with the ease with which they live in their own skins. They’ve been in their skins for a while, and it shows.

I agree with Techgal that I appreciate the maturity of your Bette and Tina and I found this conversation between them moving and thought provoking. Personally, I don’t like to use the term “wife” – it has a lot of chauvanistic baggage to me. However, T makes a good case for what it means to her and them, and if two women can take the word and give it their own power then I say “good for them.” Phew – long winded there, sorry.
I liked this chapter very much, by the way, and thanks for being so prolific this week.

The honesty that these women are now able to sharing is heartwarming. Your dialogue expertly captures the true and open feelings that course through these characters.
Bette admitting her reluctance in calling Tina her wife shows how much she has grown and this is equally matched by Tina’s insistence that they face it together.

Skip, your story is always so gratifying to read. There is such a realism to their shared struggle to put the pieces in their proper place. Forgivness, whether given or sought takes two to achieve. I like that even though it’s a tough subject for them and that they might have differing opinions on how to proceed, they were never bombastic towards each other. I knew that I had a problem by the 34th chapter, but I didn’t seek help. Yes, this story had becom an addiction. Yesterday was my first day off from work in almost seven months. What did I spend it doing? Reading all 92 chapters of this story. It took 22 hours. After all, I had to sleep and eat. Now I have completely caught up with the story that I only just discovered existed yesterday morning.
Thanks Skipton for an amazing read. I can clearly see why you are an award winner. I absolutely loved it. Your latest post sounded like a finale. If so I am in serious trouble.
