A Confrontation
“Figured you’d be out by now,” he said calmly.
“Well, I figured I still had a few more days,” Tina said setting Jackson on the couch.
“I was visiting my parents for a couple days and was hoping to have grabbed the boat and be halfway to the lake by now, but the garage is blocked.”
“Oh, sorry about that, I’ll move it,” she said and they stood in an awkward silence, “so I’m guessing you told them.”
“Yep.”
“Are they ok? I mean, are you ok,” she said gulping. He released a smirk and small laugh, “I know you know about, um, Bette.”
“Of course I know, Jesus Tina.”
“I’m sorry Eric, I really am but I can’t help the way I feel.”
“Don’t give me that bullshit,” he said half raising his voice.
“It’s true, I’ve felt this way my entire adult life, Bette just brought it out.”
“Then why did you marry me? Why did you have my son?”
“I loved you, I truly did love you.”
“That’s insulting. What I find even more insulting is the fact you tried to blame this all on me. You fought tooth and nail with me, making this seem as if it was my fault. Yeah I don’t want more children, that’s on me. But this is mostly your fault, with your lying and conniving way. I actually feel kind of sorry for Bette.”
“You’re right, I deserve that.”
“You know what makes this whole thing worse,” he asks, Tina just stands there, “the fact that you cheated on me. Not with a man, but with a woman. A woman. Jesus Tina. I can’t believe the both of you would do this to me. My wife and my friend; I can’t believe I confided in Bette when she was the perpetrator the whole time.”
“I know and believe me when I say she wanted to wait. She knew it would hurt you and she wanted to wait until it was over but I pushed her. Don’t blame her.”
“How can you ask that of me? I blame the both of you. I can’t even tell my own parents the truth. I can’t tell them I lost you to another woman, what kind of man does that make me,” he asked, tears glossing his eyes. It was then Tina realized, she not only hurt his heart but his mind as well. She never realized the impact this would have on his self esteem.
