Chapter 170

“An accident? Who?” Jessie asks.

“Dana” Alice says.

“No, Oh my God. I’ll call Bette right now.” Jessie says and picks up the phone. “How’s her condition?” Jessie asks as she dials.

“Critical, she’s in and out.” Shane replies.

“Bette’s not picking up the phone. Let me try Tina’s.” Jessie says and dials Tina’s number. After several rings, Tina answers.

“Hello?” Tina says tiredly.

“Tina, it’s Jessie.” Jessie says. Tina checks her watch and immediately sit up straight.

“What’s wrong?” She asks right away as she’s shaking Bette awake too.

Bette stirs and opens her eyes.

“The kids are fine…” Jessie starts She don’t know how to tell her the news.

“Jessie, what’s wrong.” Tina asks again.

Shane takes the phone from Jessie.

“Tina, it’s Shane.” Shane says.

“Shane? What What is going on?” Tina asks.

“Tina, there’s been an accident.” Shane says.

“Oh God, who?” Tina asks.

Bette sits up, listening with full attention. As Shane says Dana, Tina covers  her mouth and looks over at Bette. Her tears starts to fall.

“Who?” Bette asks, holding her breath.

“Dana.” Tina whispers.

“Nooo” Bette says as she starts to cry.

“Shane, how is she?” Tina asks, she takes Bette’s hand in hers.

“She’s alive, but still critical.” Shane replies. “The accident happened a few days ago. Down by the Planet. Her parents kept it a secret.” Shane says.

“Oh my God” Tina says. “Which hospital?” She asks.

“Cedars.” Shane replies.

“Okay, thanks Shane. I have to go.” Tina says and hangs up. She put down the phone and takes Bette into her arms.

“She’s alive, but critical.” Tina says as she strokes Bette’s back in a soothing pattern.

“Why can’t we have one year without drama, or better yet, a month?” Bette asks through her tears.

“I don’t know babe, I really don’t know.” Tina replies.

“I have to go see her.” Bette says and pulls away from Tina’s embrace and gets out of bed.

“Baby, calm down. They won’t allow visitors this late. It’s midnight. Come back to bed, we’ll go in the morning.” Tina says and holds out her hand.

Bette stops, her back to Tina. She moves her hand up to cover her mouth. She starts to cry uncontrollably. She falls down onto the floor and starts shaking. Tina rushes out of bed and get down beside Bette and again takes her into her arms again.
