    A Danish Beginning… Chapter 1

“Me?  Write about sports??  Are you out of your fucking mind???”

“Alice, Tim moved.  Tim was our main sports writer.  We need another sports writer.  YOU are our newest sports writer.”  Bette replied without even looking up from the stack of articles already piling up on her desk.

“But I don’t know anything about sports!  I don’t LIKE sports.  And more importantly, sports don’t like ME!!” Alice whined.

“Al, I just need you to cover one sport a season.  Just one!!  I have all of my other writers doing the same.  Hopefully this will only be a temporary situation until I can find a new sports writer to take over the majority of the sports like Tim did.”  Bette explained as patiently as she could.  Of course, whenever it came to arguments with her blonde best friend, patience was never one of Bette’s strongest characteristics.  It was the first day of hers and Alice’s senior year at Upper Darnell High and this was not how Bette had envisioned it.  They were supposed to be relaxing, easing into year before senioritis eventually took hold (senioritis= the disease in which seniors stop caring about school as they have been accepted into their future college and thus stop doing homework).  Instead, Bette had been stressing over the lack of a sports writer for a week, ever since Tim had told her of her dad’s promotion and the family’s immediate plans to move.  Tim had been Bette’s neighbor for as long as she could remember and she would deeply miss the easy friendship that had developed between the two.  This friendship had led Bette to talk Tim into joining the school paper where his vast knowledge of nearly all sports, and good writing skills, had easily landed him the role of head sports columnist.  As editor for the third year running, Bette never had to worry about Tim’s sports section as he was one of her more prompt writers who rarely needed any editing to his articles.  Which made him nearly the complete opposite of her blonde best friend…

“When I say this, know that it comes from the Alice Pieszecki who is your best friend and would consider, keyword: CONSIDER, taking a bullet for you; you’re completely delusional if you think I’m gonna write some bullshit piece about how little Johnny quarterback pitched the ball for a basket to win the match.”

    1. Not too shabby for a first post! : ) It’s really great, and you write Teen Alice just as I have pictured her in my head. You’ve captured her wit very well. Can’t wait to read more and see where this all will lead. It’s always interesting to read about younger versions of all the girls. Please post soon!

    2. Wow! This is certainly a very promising start, and I’m hoping that you’ll post again soon:) Oh an btw, loved the definition of “senioritis”, it brought back up some memories. Lol, anyways I’m definately hooked, so please keep going!

    3. The ‘quarterback pitched the ball for a basket to win the match’?? You just created some sort of weird new sport using the vocabulary from, like, four different sports.” -ROFLMAO this was realy funny hope you post more soon. =)

    4. I laughed my ass off through this entire chapter! This is exactly how I picture them being in HS! I really hope that you post again soon, because I can’t wait to see what happens at tennis practice! And hello! Teenage Dana!? This will be good!

    5. I breathed a sigh of relief when I realized that Alice threw the ball that hit her at a wall. At first I thought she was so bad that she hit herself in the head, just trying to throw the ball regularly. I wonder if it will be love/hate at first sight or if you’ll go in another direction. Whatever you do, danish is meant to be! :-)

    6. I admit, when I read the first few lines, I was a bit skeptical. Usually L Word high school fanfics aren’t very interesting to me. But, this is Alice and Dana we’re talking about, and being the big Danish fan that I am, I decided to read on anyways. And…I love it! Exactly how I would see Bette and Alice in high school. Well written. Funny too! I laughed at the whole “softball” incident. I hope you update this soon, you are off to a great start.-evancubus
