    A Discourse on Desire..Chapter 21

They decided to start over, literally. So dates were in order. Bette wanted to take Tina out, that was her plan…it made her feel almost “gentlemen-like”? But Tina beat her to it. After agreeing to the concept, she phoned Bette at work..a couple days after last seeing each other. They kept in touch over the phone, one or the other would call and say goodnight, the temptation to talk dirty was high…but just chatting, talking about the day, talking about what to do the next day..work, trivial *****. Now Bette picked up the phone while slaving away in her office, answered with a curt ‘what’. Tina’s sweet voice came on..asking what Bette was doing that night…Bette’s heart leaped. “Im sorry baby, im always so curt on that damned phone!” Tina said it was alright, that it would be weird if Bette answered nicely. Bette was busy that night, but not really, not so that she could NOT go out…”Yea Tina, why?”  “I want to take you out..not a cliche movie and dinner, but a concert!” Bette laughed into the phone, “***** Yeah!…wait…is it Arcade Fire????”  “***** how did you know?”   “There like my favourite band!”  “Well my friend gave me two tickets, you wanna go or not?”  “What do you think? I said ***** yeah!”  “I’ll pick you up at 6 then, the doors open at 7″  “ok”  Then Tina hung up, abruptly..Bette felt happy. But also weird, she was used to always being the one who brought up unexpected things. That was because Paxton never did anything just cuz, like out of the blue. Bette felt special, it was a good feeling. Too bad it came with a feeling of bewilderment. “Get used to it Bette…get used to it, suprises are ok”.

You have to admit it, starting completely over was prett weird. Especially since neither woman had ever dated a woman before, never been in a relationship with a woman before. I mean ***** each other’s brains out for two weeks then once when Bette’s ex-husband came over doesn’t really count. Those times things were loaded in the background. Now both were ‘free’…Tina broke up with Tom by not calling him again….and the cards were half on the table. Bette didn’t know all that much about Tina and vis versa, but the attraction was definetly there, it definetly was. And they had a connection, Bette didn’t know exactly what it was..but they did. And she had changed her life because of that attraction..so Bette was not going to let this thing go down in flames. That would just be stupid. And look! Tina was taking her out, Bette felt butterflies just thinking about it..there was something aobut being asked out. What was so great about her that Tina liked so much? Maybe loved? Why not? Bette was so distracted for the rest of her day. And Arcade Fire..***** what a suprise! Bette just bought their C.D “Funeral” a couple months ago. She had been so caught up in her own drama that she had not noticed, they were gonna play in L.A. Tonight! Bette felt like a 15 year-old all over again, except this time her date was a woman.
