A Discourse on Desire…Chapter 22
What was she thinking? She was thinking how natural they got along. Tina and her just seemed to mesh well…however there was a certain underlying tension. Bette couldn’t put her finger on it..but she made a guess at it. They both lost a lot because of their choices. Bette lost her husband, her house, her integrity..and Tina must have lost something too, Bette read those pages of her diary. And now it was boiling under the surface in their interactions. Bette stared into the fire…and made a desiscion. She was not going to ***** around anymore, if there was something that needed to be said she was gonna say it. Bette was tired of going living like a clone always thinking about what others thought or blah blah blah. She was not going to let her relationhsip with Tina go to ***** just because she wanted to ‘win’. Bette felt the anarchist in her stir and she had a brief fantasy of quitting her job and moving in the woods with Tina, living in a log cabin. Everyone felt that way at least once in thier life. People seeming so stupid that one wanted to seperate themselves from their pathetic species.
Bette was staring too long in the fire thinking, her eyes blurred and she rubbed them. Tina stirred beside her and woke up. She fell asleep for ten minutes. She looked up at Bette who was still thinking and looking at the logs in the fire, the embers..they were burning bright red. Bette felt Tina lightly touch her hair, she looked down at her former lover, her now girlfriend. It was dawn, the sun was coming up and peeking through the curtains, giving the room a weird sort of light. Tina moved her head slightly upwards and kissed Bette. Bette felt those lips touch hers, they felt like lightening like ***** electricity…she had not kissed anyone for so long. Bette closed her eyes and felt herself respond, her own lips moving to match Tina’s. Tina broke the kiss and looked into Bette’s eyes, it was all perfect. Bette realized that living together would be the ultimate test and the best thing for her. No one said anything, tthey felt the heat from the fire and the little sparks that flew from it.
Bette put her mug down, cleared her throat and said..”I think i should go home now”
