A few extra scenes for episode 505

Tina walked sheepishly into the kitchen where Bette was leaning back against the counter top enjoying her first cup of coffee as she read the arts section.

“Good morning,” Bette said, spying her over the top edge of the paper before she had managed to fully enter the room.

“I’m so embarrassed,” Tina replied, running her fingers back through her hair so her face was fully visible.

“We’ve all had those nights,” Bette said, setting the section back on the counter behind her. “Don’t worry about it.”

“I was going to call a cab,” Tina replied. “Jodi was convinced I was going to try to drive.”

“She can be stubborn,” Bette said. “She was worried about you.”

“I can see why you love her,” Tina said quietly.

“Is there any particular reason why you over-indulged in such a spectacular fashion?” Bette asked. “It’s so unlike you.”

“Just a crazy night out, I guess,” Tina replied. It wasn’t a very convincing response.

    “That’s it?” Bette pushed.

Tina looked at her silently for a moment.

“Busy with work and being a mom,” Tina shrugged. “It’s been a long time since I let loose.”

“It’s just that you’d barely had even a sip of wine when I was talking to you, and the next thing I know, you’re passed out on our couch.”

    “Your couch,” Tina corrected.

“It used to be our couch,” Bette said quietly

“You got it in the divorce,” Tina tried for levity.

The smirk appeared on Bette’s face momentarily before mentally returning to the gravity of the situation.

“Please don’t make me laugh,” Bette said. “I’m trying to be honest with you.”

“Is Jodi still here?” Tina asked, effectively ignoring Bette’s best effort. “I want to apologize.”

“She’s already at her studio,” Bette replied, adding a splash of soymilk to the coffee she had poured for Tina.

“I’ll write her a note,” Tina said absent-mindedly, taking the cup that Bette proffered. “Could you make sure she gets it?”

“Sure,” Bette replied. “How’s your head?”

“Demons are chipping away at my skull as we speak,” Tina replied, leaning against the edge of the table. “A succinct reminder why I don’t do things like this.”

“Which brings us full circle to why you did it,” Bette said. “You said you regretted what happened the other night.”

“Yeah,” Tina replied, looking into her cup.

    “I’m not.”

Tina looked up and met her eyes while Bette continued.

“It captured in a moment everything I missed about our time together.”

“But it was just a moment,” Tina replied. “And now you’re with someone else.” She couldn’t even say her name any longer.

“Why do you regret it?” Bette asked.

“Why do you have to keep asking the same questions?” Tina replied, her voice rising. “It shouldn’t have happened. I don’t want anything to get in the way of our ability to effectively co-parent.”

“So…you just wanted to have a good time,” Bette said. “That’s the reason the teetotaller I know and love dove into a bottle of wine and a tray of pot brownies just moments after I said I was in love with someone else.”

“Does everything have to be about you Bette?” Tina glared.

“This has everything to do with me. And you. And our life with our daughter”

“If you want something, stop making it seem like I’m the one putting up road blocks,” Tina said. “Kissing you was…like it always is. A connection. But it can’t happen again.”

Bette leaned forward and kissed her full on the mouth. Tina kept her lips pressed together tightly. Bette leaned back slightly, still able to feel Tina’s breath on her cheek.

“I want you to kiss me back,” Bette whispered.

“I want you to be available to discuss whether or not we can make something work,” Tina replied. “I won’t be the secret you keep because your relationship isn’t fulfilling you.”

Tina slid past Bette, letting her hand traverse the outside of her arm as she slipped away.

“I see she left my car keys on the coffee table,” Tina called from the living room. “I’m going home.”

Bette sat down again and listened as Tina gathered her few things. The sound of the latch catching on the door as Tina left was the cue she had been waiting for. She put her head in her hands and cried.

    (the end.)

    1. Nice. Good pushback on Betsy McAsshat “I’ve got a relationship but she’s not here so you can kiss me because I want you to.” Sorry, Bettster, but if you want, you’re going to have to show you’re in for more than just coppin’ a feel. Believable trying to play the alpha and then losing it when the ploy doesn’t work, though.

    2. Wow, you’re on a roll, JKS! This scene is as heartbreaking as the last scene of episode 505. Thanks for filling in the gap while we await the much anticipated episode 5.06.:>

    3. JKS, your chapter on the morning after was genius. I’m sure we won’t get to see what happened on the show next week, so it was nice to get your POV.

    4. Swimmie, I can see that happpening in next episode, wonder what IC will give us. Can’t blame Tina at all shse has been wronged by Bette doing the same thing to her with Candace. Even if it kills her to walk away. And what in the hell is Bette thinking anyway. Doesn’t she realize what she is doing to Tina? She wants to have her cake and eat it too, I guess. Thanks for such a spot on rendition of what can happen. Please continue. Thanks. PPS

    5. Hey JKS, Am just back after a couple weeks off without internet access from a dose of Chicken Pox. Not much fun when you are an adult. Anywho, Your story is so heartfelt and heartbreaking. Bette and Tina are so physically and emotionally drawn to each other that Jodi becomes a mere speck on the horizon. Intellectually they are trying to protect their hearts from further destruction but like moths to the flame the danger is an integral part of their attraction. Bette cannot not stay away from Tina. Just listen to her pause before she answered Tina’s question, “Are you in love with Jodi?”. The “Yes” was almosts a whisper and completely unconvincing. Your new chapter shows how the morning event might have played out. Just lapping it all up and loving it. Can;t wait for more of your wonderful words. Many thanks from Your Loyal Fan.

    6. excellent! and for the life of me i can not figure out why those folks over at the l-word can not see that these types of scenes make the story authentic, much more believeable, and most important hook the viewer into wanting more. great job jks and keep it coming

    7. Tina and Candace in the same shoes, I think not. Candace wasn’t in a marriage with Bette for 7 1/2 years, nor did Bette consider Candace the love of her life.

    8. Bette is just teasing her and that’s mean. I have nore respect for Tina, but I see that Bette is slipping into her old ways, and if I were Tina, that would scare me more!

    9. I love the short ones, you put so much is such a little space. If Bette wants Tina she needs to end things with Jodie. Tina has been there with Bette and Candace. thanks
