A Few Small Repairs – Chapter 3
Tina watched Bette’s expression out of the corner of her eye while her wife held the newborn infant for the very first time. The smile that spread across Bette’s face was nothing short of infectious.
“Hey Jake” Bette whispered to the little bundle in her arms “Isn’t he gorgeous?”
“He’s adorable” Tina agreed as she reached out to brush her finger against his ruddy little cheek. The last of Tina’s apprehension melted away as she touched the infant’s soft skin.
Wendy Meyers was Jake’s proud mom and had been a friend of Tina’s since the day the young intern had joined Alphaville. Wendy had taken Tina under her protective wing and guided her safely though the political minefield within the rapidly growing company. Tina’s willingness to help out in return ensured that she quickly won Wendy’s undying respect and gratitude.
Over time Wendy and her husband James had come to value Tina and Bette’s friendship and appreciate the solid relationship that both women clearly valued so much.
There was something about Tina’s unexpected reemergence onto the Alphaville landscape that had unsettled Wendy immensely. Of course she was pleased to see Tina back in the fold, however she was well aware that a return to the company wasn’t something that Tina had ever planned.
The first Friday afternoon Tina was back at Alphaville the pair found their way to a local bar and chatted endlessly over a drink as they had many times over the years. It hadn’t taken long for Wendy to notice that Tina’s ring was nowhere to be seen.
She tested the water around the edges, first enquiring after Bette. To which Tina smiled and said she was doing well. Venturing a little deeper she asked how their plans for a family were coming along. Tina peered into her wine glass and said that things hadn’t really gone to plan, and that they had decided to put children on the backburner for now. Wendy’s heart sank with the news. She knew how desperately both Bette and Tina had wanted a child.
“And why do I get the feeling that there is a really big piece of the puzzle that you’re not telling me about?” Wendy asked having decided it was time to jump right in with both feet.

Hackgirl, this was an honest portrayal of B & T as they struggle to get back their relationship. It makes sense that Tina would be the one to be more apprehensive given what she lost the first time around. I am thoroughly enjoying your small repairs…it looks like B & T certainly need them.
You write so well, I want to compliment you well. But, your writing surpasses my compliments…what’s a girl to do?
OMG please tell me im first. im in awe of your writing. i love this repairing your doing. its repairing my heart and soul from last season. so well done. i dont even know how to tell you how your words just flow and give pausel kinda contradictory. but hopefully youll understand, its beautiful but it makes me think. so good on all fronts. please post soon.
Great chapter, and good plan. Now, how to convince Tina to try again and for you to post chapters sooner…
As for your deal: how about, you keep making small repairs, and I read them?
Let see if Bette is the smooth talker we know she is. Talking Tinsssssa Tina into another chilf if not Tins then Bette… Thanks
I hope Wendy can convince Tina. Maybe Bette could get pregnant this time.
awesome…! Tina should try again..now that they have got through so far..Bette and Tina should have a talk bout it.
As usual, I simply let your writing envelop me and carry me through the story. In point of fact you make astute observations regarding the varied pull of parenthood on one partner or the other. You capture this difference very well. You’re on a roll…keep the chapters coming!
HG,
Again a little slice of magic.
Pure and true emotions are on display and like Jake with Bette have captured my heart.
I can’t wait to this scenario played out. Bette being the one desperate for a family while Tina is more resistant to the idea. This is completely understandable given the lost of their baby boy.
It thrills me to think that Wendy realized that she needs to work on Tina and not Bette., Excitement ahead I feel.
Thank you for filling in the blanks.
Your Loyal Fan.
PS – Please continue and avoid the Red Square!
The repairs are simply wonderful!
That was so beautiful.
Thank you.
ho pe Wendy try to convince Tina to try again they deserve and theres no reason to be afraid to try..great chapter post soon
K
Excellent chapter. This story is so good. Love it.
I have been reading all of your stories over the past two days and they were abosolutely wonderful. You have a talent for describing the characters emotions that makes you feel as though you were right there. By far you are undoubtedly one of my favorite fanfic writers. The intricate details in your stories are so simple but yet so profound and only brings the story more to life…if only it could be played out like this on the show. I would love for you to continue writing your stories as I am so sure I will not be disappointed. Once again, thanks for sharing.
Silly me I almost missed this. It’s been a while but I hope you continue. Expectations and perception make things interesting don’t they? Indeed, people surprise me all the time. Readiness for parenthood especially in a relationship such as the one depicted by these two characters is very much a conscious decision – of course an emotional one too. It remains to be seen whether these two converge eventually. Hope to see another post from you soon. Thanks for writing.
