    A Few Small Repairs – Chapter 4

“You two really should try again, Bette” Wendy encouraged “Any child would be lucky to have you and Tina as parents”

“Thanks” Bette replied quietly. It took all of her strength to hold back the strong emotions which had suddenly blindsided her. Throughout the ups and downs of the last year Bette had never stopped longing for the family that she and Tina had planned. While she felt entirely secure about their relationship, the issue of trying again for a family was one she was reluctant to broach with her wife.

Bette cleared her throat “I’m sure we’ll try again one day” She offered with a small smile.

As if on cue the sliding door opened again and Tina reappeared.

“Bette, we really should get going” Tina urged “I’m sure Wendy’s got a million things to do”

“There’s never a dull moment, that’s for sure” Wendy said before offering another happy smile.

“All right little man” Bette said as she stepped over to Wendy and carefully placed the tiny infant in his mother’s waiting arms “You be good for your Mom, OK?”

Bette and Tina said their goodbyes to both mother and child before disappearing out into the warm summer evening.

Wendy closed the door behind them and sat down on the sofa as Jake slept soundly in her arms.

“I think your Mom made a mistake” Wendy whispered to her tiny son “Looks like it’s your Aunty Tina we need to work on, Jake”

“T, did you hear me?” Bette called as she wandered down the hallway toward the study.

“Yeah” Tina called back after a brief hesitation.

Bette rounded the corner and saw Tina with her back to the door staring intently at the computer screen.

“So are you going to call Wendy back?” Bette asked.

“I’ll do it later, Baby” Tina replied without turning to face her wife.

Bette looked at her watch and frowned given the late hour.

“I said that I’d give you the message as soon as you got home, it sounded kind of urgent. Don’t you think you should get back to her before it gets too late?” Bette pushed.

    3. i love this story, thanks for posting again…this was so bitter-sweet, i hope tina will overcome her fears and at least talk to bette about it

    4. I hope ‘moving around’ led or leads to something good. Like many, I have missed your creativity…how real your characters seem. Thank you for taking the time to write.

    5. Nice to see your return. I’m sad for these two. Bette doesn’t want to push T and Tina’s scared to lose another child. Maybe Bette should be the one to get pregnant.

    6. Hey, great to see another chapter from you. It’s amazing that in your hands such a small conversation can speak volumes with what was said and not said. I do hope Tina talks to Bette about her fears. I’m sure Bette feels the same way.

    7. HG,Brilliant and a worthy return to the site.I have missed your particular slant on these characters and your tremendous talent. This story is a little gem; full of astounding honesty and emotion. The torture of bereavement and loss is still so prominent in their lives and tangible for the audience that my heart breaks a little every I read some more of this tale Thank you for filling in the blanks.Your Loyal Fan.
