A New Found Land – Chapter Two

“Do you have a car Miss?”

“No, I walk to school, need the exercise, I would normally run, but not with my books and stuff.”

We passed the entrance to my father’s estate and I pointed it out to her, as we drove past. She noted the extensive grounds which I lived on and commented on it. It was another two minutes down the road, before I swung the car in left to her bungalow. Opening the door for her, I grabbed four of her five bags and walked up to the door with them. She opened the door and led me into the kitchen to leave the groceries down. I looked around in awe, taking in her personality on the walls, in the furniture, the smell of Ms K’s house. I swallowed hard. I was falling, and I didn’t know how to get back up. “Ha, told you so. Loser. A loser in love, with her teacher after a day, Jesus could you get any soppier Porter” Oh god, it was back, like a plague, who ever said one’s subconscious was a good thing. I smirked to myself knowing that the Loser just called herself a loser, by calling herself a loser in the first place. Ha take that. “Damn, you out-witted me there Bette” ‘tis okay Bette no worries, now focus, on Ms. K.

“Would you like some lemonade or juice, or water Bette? I can hardly offer a student of mine a beer after my first day of school teaching.”

I laughed with her. God her smile was gorgeous. Flashing her one of my own, I replied. “nah miss, it’s fine, listen I’ll drop round at seven thirty tomorrow, to grab your stuff and to give you a lift, if you want it. If you don’t want the lift, then you can run, but I’ll take your books and stuff. okay?”

I think she was surprised if not baffled, as to why I offered that. Secretly, I was hoping it would rain, every single day for the next three months, just so she could be in my car for the ride home.

“Thanks Bette, that’s really sweet of you, but I’m not sure.”

“It’s fine Miss really, I don’t mind. See you tomorrow.” And before I knew it I was in my car. She walked out and up to the car as I rolled my window down.

“Okay then,” she said somewhat reluctantly.

And with one final wink, which ignited a smile from Ms K, I was off home.
