    A phone call – edited chapter 13

“Alex I would prefer not reliving that nightmare all over again. It’s been almost three years. Is there even a statute?”

“I would bring a lawsuit on morals charges against the Hammer and Serena. Deliberate or not they were responsible for allowing an egomaniac that couldn’t handle a breakup the public forum and venue to intentionally target, humiliate and embarrass you. You were professional colleagues representing CU as Artist in Residence and Director of the School of Art. Your personal drama had no place in that exhibit. As for Jodi, that’s where defamation of character would be introduced. At the very least I would sue for a public apology and monetary compensation. Core Values my ass. Not only was it hypocritical but how can you call that piece of shit art. Doesn’t it make your blood boil?”

“Of course, it does. But no one can dictate what is art. It’s truly in the eye of the beholder. I’d be the hypocrite if I didn’t practice what I preached, but yeah … it hurt like hell.” Bette’s eyes misted as she recalled the humiliating evening. She’d put so much effort into writing a great speech to honor Jodi whom she respected and admired as an artist, but what Jodi represented was the revenge of an antagonistic jilted ex-lover.

Alex could hear Bette burping Logan and then settling him down to play with his hanging mobile toy. She pictured the infant grabbing unto one of the colorful animal figures or preferring to chew on a teething ring to massage his gums.

“Yet you could still forgive her. What’s it going to take for you to see Jodi for what she is Bette?”

“I know what she is Alex, but I take some responsibility for her actions against me because of how we ended. Tina and I are not proud that we had an affair. We went behind her back knowing what we were doing was wrong and hurtful. We agonized over it, but the pull was just too strong. Still, I can’t excuse it.”

In a very short time Jodi Lerner had become part of Bette’s intimate circle of friends. Everyone including Tina accepted them as the new power lesbian couple in WeHo. Angie got attached to her. Kit and their friends embraced her. Bette admittedly let it go on for too long fooling herself into thinking they could ever be right together. They just didn’t fit like Bette and Tina did. It was hard work being with Jodi but in a way, she helped Bette be a better partner for Tina. She learned to communicate in a different way and really listen. Jodi didn’t take any shit from her, and Tina noticed that it was good for Bette to be challenged in that way sometimes. Tina was no pushover, but she acquiesced to Bette’s wants and needs a lot in their earlier relationship. Tina doesn’t do that anymore and it’s made them stronger as a couple.

    1. Bette Bette Bette. Please allow Alex to go after Jodi. Get them all. Ironic that Shane is reluctant to get involved. Sounds like the Shane in Gen Q. At any rate Bette has taken on a lot of guilt and part of it is a result of the way she was treated by Kit and the others. Bette and Tina are in love. They should make no apologies for that. Jodi was most likely still seeing Amy. Messy stuff. She was disrespectful of Bette at work. Did not believe any rules applied to her. On balance Jodi was arrogant and narcissistic. Time she got a real wake up call. Her two cohorts as well. This was truly a very refreshing read. Nice job!

      • Hi Billy,

Thank you for reading and commenting. Totally agree with everything you wrote. By this point however in the retelling to Alex, Bette is no longer carrying any guilt, She is with the woman she loves and was meant to be with, and though she has no regrets, I just think that acknowledging the affair with Tina even if Jodi was being duplicitous is part of her growth and being accountable for her actions. I promised when I introduced this storyline of Jenny, Kelly, and Jodi that they would all pay so don’t worry about them getting away with anything, I just need to figure out how to work it and connect them.

As always I appreciate your insights. Take care. .

      • Hi SassyGran,

Thank you. Glad to be back with this story. Sorry I was gone for so long.

Jodi was my least favorite character on the show and I hated how she treated Bette (even before the Tina affair) so you can be sure I she will get what is coming to her.

Appreciate you sticking with me, and there is more to come soon. Take care..

    2. Agree with Billy and SassyGran, let Alex go after Jodi and Kelly,. Serena and the Hammer! They deserve to be sued and pay greatly for what they have done to Bette.

Unfortunately, Bette still seems to see it as punishment she deserved for being with Tina when she was still dating Jodi, especially as her friends and Kit defended Jodi. Something I will never understand, public revenge in that way is inexcusable. Jodi should be punished for this along with those who made this possible.

Everything points to Kelly being involved in this, an incredible bitch with a misplaced ego.
I hope Tina can convince Bette that she should let Alex do her job although I understand why Bette would rather put this behind her. And i agree with Billy on the Shane part, she is unrecognizable in GQ and in my view has an occasional misplaced sense of friendship and loyalty to the wrong people.

I also think Bette is a great mother and the bond with Logan is so beautiful to see. She has everything she wants, a family and the love of her life, Tina, and is so pleased with this, you can feel and read her happiness between all the lines!

      I loved this rewritten chapter!

      • Hi Bibi28

Thank you for your comment, and letting me know that you ‘loved’ the rewritten chapter. It means a lot. Jodi, Kelly, and Jenny will get what is coming to them – I just had Bette take a pause so I can figure out what direction to take. You are so right about Shane – I don’t know what happened to her in GenQ season 2, but she was acting so uncharacteristically – I read a few comments on social media where people were saying that she ‘called in her performance’ meaning she wasn’t really present and didn’t put much effort into her storyline. It was the most boring and ridiculous of all the storylines and though I like Tess, I really wasn’t feeling them as a couple.

Anyway the misplaced loyalty thing is one of her flaws, and in this story she will learn that Jenny is not deserving of it.

Thank you as always for reading and commenting.. Much appreciated. Take care..

    3. Interesting developments. I certainly hope all three women get exactly what they deserve – prison time & humiliation.

These 3 are the most hated characters in my book of OG. One slimier than the other. Think Jenny was the worst from her first scene.

Still glad that Bette & Tina are on the right track & living their dream life.

Anxious to see them in NYC & adjusting to their new life there.

      Thanks for a great chapter.

      Go Alex!!!

      • Hey Collins,

Thank you for keeping up with this story and commenting. I know you’re busy writing yours so really appreciate you taking the time.

I agree with the trio of Jenny, Kelly and Jodi being the most disliked characters in the OG for me. I would put Jodi as the worst, then Kelly. I had a little bit of compassion for Jenny in some of the seasons as she was certainly a tortured soul but that was outbalanced by how deliberately cruel she was and she and caused a lot of destruction.

Bette and Tina are living their best life, despite these minor distractions. I’m looking forward to their lives in New York too. I’m spending as much of my spare time writing as possible as I do want to get this one finished. Take care.

        • Hi BAT,

Saw you just posted another update – will try my best to read it this weekend!!! I am so looking forward to it.

I wish you all the best in your writing & getting this story told!!!

My least fav character was actually Jenny – totally over the top – & Mia did such a fantastic job in her portrayal. Gotta think what part of her many versions was true to IC’s RL character???

And yes, make the 3 amigos pay BIGTIME for the mess they brought to Tibette.

          Thanks for the updates.
And yes, I am working diligently on the next DOH update. Thanks for asking.
