A phone call – edited chapter 13
“I don’t want to keep you on the phone any longer. This was just meant to be a quick head’s up call, but I’d like to see you in my office so we can go over some details and I want you to see the video. How’s tomorrow work for you?”
“I’ll need to bring Logan with me if that’s OK. If her schedule hasn’t changed, Tina is on an early flight to New York in the morning.”
“Not a problem. I’d love to see him. How about 10 am?”
“10 am is good. Thank you, Alex.”
“My pleasure. Give Tina my regards and wish her safe travels.”
“I will. Have a good rest of your day.” Bette disconnected the call and pulled the earbuds out.
***
Bette turned her full attention back to her son who was waiting patiently for her to finish the call.
“Come on little man. Let’s go get your sister.” Bette said to Logan realizing it was time to pick up Angie from school. As infuriated as she felt Bette didn’t waste any more time thinking about Jenny, Jodi or Kelly. It was family time.
Bette got Logan settled in his car seat and was about to pull out of the driveway when her cell phone rang in the car. Tina’s smiling face appeared on the screen.
“Hey babe.”
“Hey Tee. I was just leaving to get Angie. What’s up?”
“Nothing really. I just realized we haven’t spoken all day. I missed you and Logan.”
“We missed you too. How’d the meeting go with the lawyers?”
“That’s what kept me tied up all day, but I’ll fill you in later.” Tina answered. Obviously not wanting to get into it on phone. “How was your day?”
“Good, but you’re not going to believe this.”
“What?”
“I received a call from Alex Corbin. We’re moving forward with pressing charges against Jenny.”
“That’s news.” Tina was as disappointed as Bette when Alex had told them that the DA wasn’t bringing charges against Jenny for lack of collaborating evidence. “What happened?”
“We’ve got the evidence, and of all people it was Shane that discovered it.”
“Shane. How? What?” Tina was eager to hear what Alex had found.
“I’ll tell you all about it, but let’s talk later. I need to a clear head.”
Tina agreed with Bette to table further discussion until they were together at home. Any talk about Fucking Jenny Schecter would cause a distraction and she certainly didn’t want that while Bette was driving the kids.
“Are you still flying to New York tomorrow?” Bette asked.
“Yes. The flight leaves at 9 am. Why?”
“Just confirming. I have a 10 am with Alex in the morning.”
“Do we need to make arrangements for someone to babysit?”
“No. I’ll take Logan with me. Alex hasn’t seen him in a while and since we’ll be downtown, I thought we could do Storytime at the Central Library after.”
“That’ll fun. Make sure you pick up something for Angie at the gift shop.”
“Of course. What time will you be home this evening?”
“We’re wrapping up shortly. I should be there by six. Are you and Angie still planning on tacos for dinner.”
“Yes. We’re stopping at the store to get all the ingredients on the way home. Everything should be ready by the time you get here. We’ll have an early dinner and talk once we get the kids settled.”
“Sounds like a plan. I love you.”
“I love you too. We’ll see you at home soon.”
“OK. Switch to the rear screen and put me on speaker so I can talk to Logan while you drive.”
Bette switched from her headset to the car speaker and turned on the screen attached to the back of the front passenger seat so Logan could see Tina’s image. Bette watched from the rear-view mirror as a big grin appeared on his face and he started blabbing in his cute baby talk when he saw his other mother on video and heard her voice. Bette put the car in gear and headed towards Angie’s school.
Tina’s voice filled the car as she sang a song and Logan clapped his hands. Bette’s expression was frozen with the most contented smile. Her family, this is what was important. Nothing else mattered. They were together sharing their lives, dreams and in love.

Bette Bette Bette. Please allow Alex to go after Jodi. Get them all. Ironic that Shane is reluctant to get involved. Sounds like the Shane in Gen Q. At any rate Bette has taken on a lot of guilt and part of it is a result of the way she was treated by Kit and the others. Bette and Tina are in love. They should make no apologies for that. Jodi was most likely still seeing Amy. Messy stuff. She was disrespectful of Bette at work. Did not believe any rules applied to her. On balance Jodi was arrogant and narcissistic. Time she got a real wake up call. Her two cohorts as well. This was truly a very refreshing read. Nice job!
Billy
Hi Billy,
Thank you for reading and commenting. Totally agree with everything you wrote. By this point however in the retelling to Alex, Bette is no longer carrying any guilt, She is with the woman she loves and was meant to be with, and though she has no regrets, I just think that acknowledging the affair with Tina even if Jodi was being duplicitous is part of her growth and being accountable for her actions. I promised when I introduced this storyline of Jenny, Kelly, and Jodi that they would all pay so don’t worry about them getting away with anything, I just need to figure out how to work it and connect them.
As always I appreciate your insights. Take care. .
Agree with Billy please let Bette allow Alex to go after Jodi (I never liked her!)
Nice to have you back more please,
SG
Hi SassyGran,
Thank you. Glad to be back with this story. Sorry I was gone for so long.
Jodi was my least favorite character on the show and I hated how she treated Bette (even before the Tina affair) so you can be sure I she will get what is coming to her.
Appreciate you sticking with me, and there is more to come soon. Take care..
Agree with Billy and SassyGran, let Alex go after Jodi and Kelly,. Serena and the Hammer! They deserve to be sued and pay greatly for what they have done to Bette.
Unfortunately, Bette still seems to see it as punishment she deserved for being with Tina when she was still dating Jodi, especially as her friends and Kit defended Jodi. Something I will never understand, public revenge in that way is inexcusable. Jodi should be punished for this along with those who made this possible.
Everything points to Kelly being involved in this, an incredible bitch with a misplaced ego.
I hope Tina can convince Bette that she should let Alex do her job although I understand why Bette would rather put this behind her. And i agree with Billy on the Shane part, she is unrecognizable in GQ and in my view has an occasional misplaced sense of friendship and loyalty to the wrong people.
I also think Bette is a great mother and the bond with Logan is so beautiful to see. She has everything she wants, a family and the love of her life, Tina, and is so pleased with this, you can feel and read her happiness between all the lines!
I loved this rewritten chapter!
Hi Bibi28
Thank you for your comment, and letting me know that you ‘loved’ the rewritten chapter. It means a lot. Jodi, Kelly, and Jenny will get what is coming to them – I just had Bette take a pause so I can figure out what direction to take. You are so right about Shane – I don’t know what happened to her in GenQ season 2, but she was acting so uncharacteristically – I read a few comments on social media where people were saying that she ‘called in her performance’ meaning she wasn’t really present and didn’t put much effort into her storyline. It was the most boring and ridiculous of all the storylines and though I like Tess, I really wasn’t feeling them as a couple.
Anyway the misplaced loyalty thing is one of her flaws, and in this story she will learn that Jenny is not deserving of it.
Thank you as always for reading and commenting.. Much appreciated. Take care..
Interesting developments. I certainly hope all three women get exactly what they deserve – prison time & humiliation.
These 3 are the most hated characters in my book of OG. One slimier than the other. Think Jenny was the worst from her first scene.
Still glad that Bette & Tina are on the right track & living their dream life.
Anxious to see them in NYC & adjusting to their new life there.
Thanks for a great chapter.
Go Alex!!!
Hey Collins,
Thank you for keeping up with this story and commenting. I know you’re busy writing yours so really appreciate you taking the time.
I agree with the trio of Jenny, Kelly and Jodi being the most disliked characters in the OG for me. I would put Jodi as the worst, then Kelly. I had a little bit of compassion for Jenny in some of the seasons as she was certainly a tortured soul but that was outbalanced by how deliberately cruel she was and she and caused a lot of destruction.
Bette and Tina are living their best life, despite these minor distractions. I’m looking forward to their lives in New York too. I’m spending as much of my spare time writing as possible as I do want to get this one finished. Take care.
Hi BAT,
Saw you just posted another update – will try my best to read it this weekend!!! I am so looking forward to it.
I wish you all the best in your writing & getting this story told!!!
My least fav character was actually Jenny – totally over the top – & Mia did such a fantastic job in her portrayal. Gotta think what part of her many versions was true to IC’s RL character???
And yes, make the 3 amigos pay BIGTIME for the mess they brought to Tibette.
Thanks for the updates.
And yes, I am working diligently on the next DOH update. Thanks for asking.
