Catching up with the quickly retreating doctor, James placed his hand on her arm to attract her attention.
"Bette…Bette… wait," the secretary spoke as softly as he could whilst running, "It’s alright… it’s nothing bad…"
Many a times Bette had tried to hide the anguish that could be hers even if it was only on rare occasions; those times where a particular tough case had drained her of all her energy or a tragic outcome had robbed her of her belief in the good her skills were capable to administer.
But the level of despair which was now painted on the usual calm, collected and self-assured features took James by surprise; so he had run after her just to help alleviate some of the distress which was plain for all to see.
She was pale almost grey from lack of sleep and internal torment. James had never seen her like that, at least, not since Tina had disappeared from the surgeon’s life.
Bette did not say anything, instead she gave a half-hearted smile which spoke of her gratefulness at James’ attempt to assuage. Still without a word she moved on, leaving James behind, to hurry towards her destination.
The surgeon hesitated for a second before pushing open the frosted glass doors of the recovery room. She had ignored until now the inquisitive stares of the staff in the intensive care unit. She had been under scrutiny the second she had arrived in ICU. Furtive looks exchanged, slight nudge of an elbow and discreet murmurs followed her as she crossed the room on her way to where Tina was being held.
As she made her entrance, the attending nurse turned from what she was doing to approach the doctor and hand her a chart. Bette’s enquiring eyes did all the talking for her and the nurse spoke immediately.
"She has started to wake up. We thought… you might have wanted to be here…" the nurse informed gently, avoiding eye contact.
Bette did not know whether to be pleased or not by the fact that the nurse did not look at her. She was finding it hard to remain unaffected by the vision in the single bed in the middle of the room.

Wth…Amnesia?!…..I really, really wanna ask you what happened?..did she cheated, [Tina] ..why did leave?…are they married?.. …Soo many…but I know it will spoilt the plot of the story…… with a heavy heart I will say… …”I will just wait for your next update”…

As with everybody else I definitely need a stronger drink than the twinings everyday I have beside me (Uncannily!) but I am a teetotaler so I’ll just have to wait for you to fix this kins40. ;P
