An Eventful Day – new chapter
“No need to apologize Babe, just make sure you have cash to put in the swear jar.” Tina teased.
“No worries there. I stopped at the ATM when we got groceries earlier in anticipation of our Jenny conversation.” They both chuckled as Bette pulled out her phone to send herself a reminder. “3-F words, 1-S word. Maggot’s not a curse word, is it?” Bette asked giving Tina a sideward glance.
“I’ll give you a pass on that one. Aaron is a homophobic maggot, but please don’t ever let Angie or Logan hear you say that.”
“Promise. All kidding aside Tee, what the fuck?” Bette smiled adding another F-word to her list.
“You’re incorrigible, but you’re absolutely right. They’re basically offering my base salary which I’ve already earned by the way. As if lost wages were the only thing I suffered in this debacle. They are not taking any responsibility for the defamation of character, and false accusations. Not that I could put a price on what it cost me but $5M isn’t going to cut it. Even if I win, I’ll never be fully trusted with a production of this magnitude again in Hollywood. Focus Features may have looked past this and I’m grateful, but my integrity will be forever under scrutiny until we find out who stole the negatives.”
“How big was this movie?” Bette asked taking interest for the first time as she always considered Lez Girls as an affront and intrusion on their personal lives better left unread, but it was in fact a big deal that Tina had scored the movie rights to Jenny’s book.
“Lez Girls in its original conception is a $150M dollar box office draw to say nothing of streaming and consumer purchases. With all the shit that happened if the negatives are found, and they go with the new ending I estimate $125M or it might go the other way and double that. Even on the low end my earnings would be 3% – 5% of the profits post-release. If the movie made money, we all made money. I mean I’m not the only one. Everyone got screwed out of the post-release profits when the negatives were stolen, but that has nothing to do with my settlement. Aaron was the mouthpiece, but the studio heads did nothing to suppress his false accusations. I hold Shaolin as much responsible as Aaron. I was very explicit with my lawyers that I wouldn’t settle for less than the $15M lawsuit or we go to court. I also expect to be paid my back salary and given a compensation package. $20M is what I had in mind. I think that’s fair.”

Hey BAT2012,
I love to read this brand new chapter, it was mainly about Tina’s conversations about her settlement with Shaolin and how she herself played a part in all the things that shouldn’t actually happen but do happen in the film world. Fortunately, she acknowledges that. You see again how Bette has changed, she now takes Tina’s work as seriously as her own, no longer sees it as less important and really gives her full attention to Tina.
I like that you inserted this in the chapter as well because we talked yesterday about Shane.
“I think Shane feels responsible for Jenny and in some weird way is protective of her. She’s conflicted, she hates being in the middle, but she doesn’t want to choose sides. You know her character Bette. She’s got a strong moral compass. Her loyalty may be misplaced, but she’s not going to be party to something that she knows is wrong.”
And i don’t know if i a mentioned it earlier but i love the idea of the swear jar, and of course Bette knows she has the biggest contribution to filling it and even writes it down or just decides to put 20 bucks in it already. So funny!
And then you end the chapter like this:
“It was a good thing for Bette that her expletives in the bedroom while in the throes of passion wasn’t counted for the swear jar.” Priceless, so funny!
Thank you so much for this chapter!
Thank you Bibi28
Glad you liked the insertion of this conversation. I thought it was necessary to remove the stigma from Tina that is associated with Shaolin, the stolen negatives, and Aaron and William’s homophobia that she had to put up with.
True to the OG season 5/6 Bette had really started to pay attention to Tina’s needs career wise and she was supportive. When Tina got the job offer with Focus Bette called her a ‘superstar’ and although the Jenny thing might have contributed to Bette’s willingness to move to New York to get away from the lesbian drama, I think she legitimately saw it as an opportunity for her and Tina to be independent of their friends and family – she also asked Tina to marry her when they got to New York which I think was a huge step in their level of commitment and they wanted another child. Not sure why OG decided on the Marci storyline for them not to be able to adopt the baby but I think that was another bad choice. Tina may have carried Angie but I really believe Bette wanted children more and would definitely choose to be home with them at this point in her career – she’d already achieved her art icon status and I could see her stepping down to give Tina the space to achieve her career goals as I am trying to portray in this story. That’s not to say Bette is going to be 100% fulfilled being a stay at home Mom and never work. She still has the gallery and she still does consulting but being home with Logan is taking priority at the moment.
I do plan to delve a bit more into Shane as she will be more prominent in this story not only in relation to Jenny but I’d like to see her life take a different direction.
I think if Bette Porter really had a swear jar Angie could likely pay for her first car with the money she would have collected over the years!
Thank you again for reading and for your thoughtful comments. Really appreciate it.
Thanks so much for posting this new Chapter so quickly.
Looking forward to more.
Love the swear jar

Hi SassyGran
Thank you for reading and sticking with me over the years. I took down two chapters from this story that I originally posted to edit them so a lot of it is already written. I’m just making some slight changes and inserting some more depth to the story. I’m posting the chapters as I finish them so that is happening pretty quickly but once I start writing brand-new chapters it may slow down, but I am committed to bringing the story to a conclusion and not leaving it hanging out there indefinitely.
I love the swear jar too, and that Tina keeps her accountable. I doubt it will ever work as a deterrent to keep Bette from swearing but by having Angie count the strokes and reconcile the money each week it’s helping her math skills. At some point she’s going to ask why Bette swears so much :-)
Appreciate you reading and commenting. Take care!
Me too SassyG!!! That whole dialog tickled me big time!!! Tina counting down ONLY 3 seconds b4 her “beloved” started filling the jar!!!!!
“maggot” isn’t a curse word is it???
Perhaps it was the way Bette said it
The over all filling in of the fall-out of who stole the LezGirls negatives AND how something like that effects so many people is astounding to me. The inner workings of the movie industry is facinating.
Gosh Bat I love how U interject the lessons that Tibette has learned from past missteps and poor choices. For ex, Tina admitting to her moral failings in her actions AND in what she “allowed” to happened. BRAVA & BRAVO to you dear lady!!!!

Thank you so much for reading and commenting. Really appreciate that you pointed out the learnings from past and poor choices. I think that is one of the biggest failures or Bette and Tina is not only acknowledging this but growing and learning from their failures. I hope by doing this to make them stronger individually and as a couple to be open and honest and accountable.
As for the film industry, I’m making stuff up but I think we saw enough of a glimpse in the filming of Lez Girls to get a pretty good idea of what goes on behind the scenes. Take care.
