Angelica (Finally) Has Two Mommies: Chapter Two
David turned and headed back towards the hospital when he saw Kit.
She called after him, “Your grandfather would be ashamed of you.”
David stopped. “That is something about which you certainly knoq, since you were an expert in shaming him.”
Kit winced and briefly turned her head away at the blow, but she turned her head back and continued, “Despite everything, Melvin knew a family had to stick together. Lord knows, he was disappointed in me, and I was plenty disappointed in him, but I always knew I could go to him, even if I was too proud to do so. . Yet you ignore my messages, even when I tell you it is a family matter. Melvin would never have done that and he did not raise you that way,”
David did not turn around, but he also did not walk away. After almost two minutes, he turned to face Kit and asked “What do you want?”
Kit spoke quickly, trying to make as much progress as possible before David changed his mind.
“Your aunt may not be allowed to adopt her own daughter and she needs your help.”
“She sent you.”
“Of course not. You hurt her deeply with you speech at the adoption visit. Another thing you got from Melvin. She would never again ask for your help.”
David glared at Kit and started to turn, but Kit spoke quickly, “I’m sorry, I ‘m sorry. That was uncalled for. But you did hurt your aunt. Badly. If anyone should know how loving and caring she can be with a child, it’s you.”
“Grandfather and Mrs. Williamson took care of me.”
“Mrs. Williamson kept you fed and clothed, and made sure your room was clean. I can’t take any swipes at Daddy. You’ve grown op to be a fine man. But any warmth you felt was from your Aunt Bette.”
“I have no idea what you mean.”
“David, think. When it thundered, or when you thought there was a monster in your closet, was it your grandfather’s bed that you jumped into?”
David sighed, “I do not doubt that Aunt Bette would be a wonderful parent.”
“Then why, David, won’t you help her? You know that little girl would be lucky to have your Aunt Bette as her mother, and you have to know how much she loves that baby. And that baby needs you, too. She needs a strong, principled loving African-American man in her life.”
“As I said to the social worker, I do not approve of gay people having children.”
“But, David, your grandfather did not approve of how you came into this world either, but that didn’t stop him from loving you and raising you to be the fine man you are today.”

Cedars-Sinai Hospital
Three days later, sitting in the doctors’ lounge during a break in his 36-hour rotation, David pulled out of his pocket a slip of paper with his mother’s handwriting. He paused and looked at it for a few moments, then squared his shoulders. He unclipped his phone from his belt and dialed the social worker newly assigned to his aunt’s case.

david is such an ass…i really liked how all the girls got together to help bette and tina, hopefully new social worker will be much better
David is as ass! But big kudos to Kit for staying after him! Thanks!!
tina can just have legal papers drawn up giving bette guardianship of angelica before she is get adopted. then when adoption goes thru everything will be completely legal.
I wonder if the adoption will be addressed in Season 5 or will it have taken place “Off Camera” anyway a good chapter and good for Kit for being David’s shadow. Thank you.
Go Kit! Go Girls! Go Gadget Go! Okay, so scrap the last, but yay for Bette’s friends trying to help her set the adoption right. I did always hope that Dr. Waters would come round, and stop being such a prat, so good on Kit for that. Maybe he and Kit will ahve a relationship some day. I hope so. And from the last chapter, LOL @ Roberta Collie being a “Furry”! Great posts, Spumoni. Thanks and happy holidays!
David is an ass. And I have always hated how Alice treated Tina that season.. it was out of the line for a friend. You have kept with that spirit. But glad you are filling in the blanks with this story.
David IS an ass, and Alice’s should have been kicked for how she acted that day of the visit. Real friends don’t do that, especially at a critical moment like that, but Alice is another who never has consequences from her friends for her actions. Tina doesn’t need any help, she has nothing at risk, but is delusional if she doesn’t believe Bette has everything to lose, just because she at this point in time says Bette is Angelica’s second parent. I want the new social worker to be competent and sane and get this over with so Bette never has to worry again. PS..remind me never to get Kit mad at me!!!
We all agree: David is an ass but blame IC for her handling of that whole adoption mess. Every situation doesn’t call for slapstick humor or outrageous comments like Alice and David made. Bette was unreasonable enough and that whole craziness w/the social worker and fuzzy faces was ridiculous. JB was preggers in RL and that 3rd season was the season from hell, IMHO. I was angry w/IC for presenting such unreasonable situations and harping on them. And any serious scenes w/Bette and Tina were so quick and undeveloped. I was just going to make a short comment but I went on this rant. I guess S3 bugged me too much. You’re doing a fine job w/reconstructing the story into a rational one. Thanks.
I strongly believe Angelica doesn’t need as person like David in her life! I do not see how he is going to enrich her life with all his Melvin Porter School Hypocritical, discriminating and condescending views towards life and people! I don’t care if he is related to Bette. In this case he proved that Blood is not thicker than water and family means nothing from the first instance! Although I do want David to APOLOGIZE TO Bette and beg (yes BEG!!) for forgiveness for his uncalled for and callous behavior considering the circumstances of his first visit. I do not want to see what David is doing to be made into as a big favor that he is doing for his aunt, as far as i am concerned Bette doesn’t need favors from such A* regardless of the situation. He should be doing it towards his repentance for trying to ruin Angie’s life by denying her her mother. Sorry for the long winded comment but the David scene disturbed me immensely! I do not trust him with Angelica’s life. He is ungrateful and pretentious. Please keep going. So far I like the way you are handling the story. Thank you! :)
