    Angelica & The Artist – Chapter 17

As she turned back to face her Mom, Bette adamantly stated, “Angelica, this piece of work has got to be shown. It simply should not be just locked away in your office where no one will see it.

“It’s not for sale. Why would I show it?”

Lyndsay had arrived at the gallery, and after briefly chatting with Meg in the reception area, she had asked for Angie. Meg stated that she was in her office and gave her the directions on how to find it. As Lynds walked down the hallway, she heard Angelica’s voice rise in tone.

“Mom, I said it’s not for sale.”

“Angelica. What have I always taught you about art?”

“That the next great artist is just waiting to be discovered.”

“Exactly. And how to you expect this artist to get discovered, if you hide their work in your office?”

“Mom, it isn’t that simple. This is not a commercial artist, it’s just someone who paints for enjoyment. This is not their career.”

“Not their career? What do you mean not their career? Angelica Kennard-Porter, the quality of this piece of art is second to none…..it’s amazing. You have got to convince the artist to allow you to see their other work and arrange a show. This is simply too good to just lock away.”

Lyndsay had been standing in the hallway listening to the conversation between Bette and Angelica, and at that point, decided to knock on the door tolet Ang know she had arrived. Angie looked over to the doorway to see her standing there and was thankful for the interruption. She knew her Mom would continue to press her on the painting, but she just was not prepared to give her too much information. Walking over to Lyndsay she gave her a kiss and said “Good timing, I’m glad you are here.”

Lyndsay looked over to Bette and said hello. Asking what the heated discussion was about, Angie replied nothing, but Bette walked behind the desk and picked up Lyndsay’s painting.

“This is what the discussion is about. It is simply amazing and should be shown and not be hidden away in an office.”

Angelica was getting a little perturbed at her mother’s insistence by this point. She indicated to Bette that her mind was made up and that she was going for lunch with Lyndsay. She would be back in an hour. Then taking Lyndsay’s hand they walked out of the office and headed for a small Thai restaurant near the gallery.

Bette could only stand staring at the open doorway. She was missing something. This was not like Angie to not want to display a wonderful piece of art. Looking back at the painting, L.A – who was the mysterious L.A. person?

Bette was just about to walk out of the office when she stopped and turned back to the picture one more time. The light bulb in her head suddenly went on as she stared at the initials again.

L.A. ……..Lyndsay Adams. That’s why Angie won’t show the painting. It was Lyndsay who had painted it.

Well this changed everything. Bette would simply talk to Lyndsay and get her to see the importance of showing her work. New artists of this caliber were hard to come by, and if there were more paintings, then Bette Porter was prepared to do what ever it took to convince Lyndsay Adams to show her work.  She had always been good at persuading people to do what she wanted, but even the great Bette Porter couldn’t predict the obstacles that she would face in this latest pursuit.

    1. OMG, we have to wait till the fall. This update was awesome and you’ve so left us hanging. I don’t know if even the great Bette Porter can get Lyndsay to agree. I still feel theirs something she’s hiding. I guess if you need a break its okay, at least I know not to check everyday hoping theirs an update. Besides the wedding is probably a bit more important. Enjoy and we will be anxiously awaiting your return.

    2. Bette still has not learned that she can’t control everything and everybody. This is probably one she will not win. Qustion is: why doesn’t Lyndsay want her work shown? After all it will be shown in NY or LA nor her hometown. Oh God, is she Marcus Allenwood’s child? Certainly hope not. Will we get another chapter before you go on summer hiatus? If not, then have a great rest of the summer and we will look forward to many chapters in the fall. Best wishes with the wedding and congrats to your lady.

    3. this is going to be good I think that mom and daughter may fall out over this one and I also feel that tina will agree with ang on this one as well but I can’t wait to see what will happen so pps great update I love it

    5. Tazzie! Damn girl this was absolutely brilliant. I’m telling you, as I’ve told you a million times before, you have had an amazing talent tucked away. I am so fortunate to have some how, some way found a path that crossed with yours and eventually ended in not only an amazing friendship….but an extraordinary birth to your creative abilities. I’m not sure at what point you rolled your sleeves up, but when you did and started tapping at that keyboard it has been a whirlwind of successful storytelling. Thank you my friend for sharing so much with others, and for the friendship that has grown so big over the past several months. As for the wedding. Gosh you so know how I feel about you and P. Let’s hope UPS knows how much I do too and keeps that darn shipment on schedule. Love and hugs hun. TTYS. Oh, and about that dog house. It’s a duplex so whenever you need a place, it’s usually available. LOL! xo
