Angelica & The Artist – Chapter 34
Chapter 34
Angelica knew this was important. This was perhaps the first critical juncture they had reached in their relationship. How she responded would set the tone for not only the rest of the evening, but their weekend in Raleigh as well. It was not often that Angelica showed anyone her vulnerable side. What most people saw was the ever calm, cool and collected young business woman. She was always so sure and confident, or at least that was the appearance and image she portrayed to others. Few people knew of the internal chaos that sometimes resided within her as she struggled to maintain that tough exterior she showed to the outside world.
“Lynds, I’m scared.”
Lyndsay looked over at her girlfriend. This was something she never thought she would ever hear Angie say. Scared…….Angelica Kennard-Porter may be a lot of things but scared was not one of the ways in which Lyndsay would ever have thought to describe her.
“What do you mean, you’re scared? Why?”
Angie new that she owed Lyndsay an explanation, but wasn’t sure how to go about providing it. This was new territory for her. She had never admitted to a girlfriend that she was scared……not about anything.
“I don’t want to disappoint you.”
This took Lyndsay by surprise. “Me? You don’t want to disappoint me? What are you talking about?”
“Yes….you. I know this weekend means a lot to you, but what if your parents do not approve of me as your girlfriend? I mean come on Lynds, from what you told me, before you met me you had never even considered dating a woman, and now here we are, just a few short months after first meeting and I’m going to your parents for Thanksgiving weekend.”
“I thought you wanted to go?” the disappointment lingered as she spoke.
“I did………..I do, but I’m worried about what they will think of me.”
“Ang, I don’t think you have anything to worry about. They already know you.”
“But not as your girlfriend.”
“That doesn’t matter. Trust me, they will grow to love you as much as I do.”
“I wish I could believe that.”
“Ang, baby…..you don’t have to try to impress anyone. You are such an amazing person, you have a huge heart and they will see that. Please believe me….it will be okay, I promise. Just be you, and know that it is good enough for me and my family.”

Looks as though the dinner meeting with Carolyn was a success and everyone wants the same thing, happiness for Lyndsay and Angie. Angie was very wise in getting that out in the open with Carolyn. And she should not have any problems with Lyndsay’s parents either, even though “she is as nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs,” everything will go fine with the parents. Great chapter. PPS
Good job Taz, now for the parents, ya the dreaded parents meeting. I am sure Angie will do great. Hey dose this Angie cook? Can she help with the dinner? Thank you, Md
Honestly, If I was Carolyn and had been friends with Lyndsay that long I would have asked the same things, even if Angie had been a man. Anyway, I think they like each other and now Angie has had a dry run before Lyndsays parents. Great update Taz and wonderfully written.
Well look at who surprised me tonight! I loved it Tazzie. That conversation was one that I could certainly see happening in someone like Carolyn’s position. Her best friend is embarking on not just a relationship which she has fallen completely in love with the person, BUT…that “person” is a female, and a sexual presence that is unfamiliar grounds to Lyndsay. I would likely have one of those hard decisions in behalf of a good friend myself. VERY believable. You did a fabulous job blending the feelings of each person in this chapter. Let’s just see where this one goes now eh? :-)))) Thanks for posting hun. xo
love it, pps
Love this story,Angie is so like Bette but so like Tina. thanks
Try to catch me out eh while I was at L5. Just arrived home and will read it shortly. Thanks Taz I was looking forward to another chapter.
Hey Tazzie, what a pleasant surprise you gave us. We didn’t expect this post. As for the story, Angie showing her vulnerable side to Lynds, required a lot of effort. But it was the best thing to do, in order to avoid any future misunderstanding. Carolyn’s concern for her best friend’s happiness is very sweet. This reunion was a nice prelude to meeting Lynds parents as the girlfriend. We agree with Lynds. Angie should be her own self. Can’t wait for Thanksgiving dinner. Thanks, Tazzie for such a lovely update. Hugs & kisses on both your cheeks. Lucero & Marsha (JC’s Salsa Aunties)
Hey, if I was Carolyn I would have asked the same questions. I’m sure Lynsday’s thought this through, we already know she took her time before contacting Angie again. It will go fine with the folks, relax Ang.
