Backstory ~ Chapter Five
Tina and Bette carefully arranged their schedules so as to minimize any period of time when the wolves would be left alone in the house. In Bette’s case, this was common sense, since it would be madness to leave wild animals without supervision in your carefully and expensively decorated home, surrounded by a valuable works of art. In Tina’s case, though, she was fearful that one or another human might seek entrance and somehow learn about the pack’s residence in the home.
It was illegal for a wolf to live in Los Angeles. It was even illegal for a wolf to visit Los Angeles. These facts severely limited Tina and Bette’s ability to address many of the basic issues raised by the visiting family’s presence. They had improvised solutions to the food and waste problems. However, wolves need exercise, and without it become restive. Restive wolves have short tempers. Bette and Tina, but especially Bette, worried.
Tina had told Shaolin that there was a family emergency that often would require her physical presence at home, but that on those days she would work a full day from home. That flexible option was not available to Bette, but it was a quiet time in the academic year so Bette was able to minimize the number of hours she needed to be at the college. They had been unable to decide what to do about Angelica and her preschool and, initially had informed the school that she was ill and hoped that the school would not seek any more information when her "illness" proved to be extended. Later, when they were sure that their daughter could keep the secret that her visiting relatives were of a different species, they sent the little girl back to her expensive school.
Bette longed to safely talk to someone about the influx of in-laws, but no one was available. She could not tell her therapist. Her therapist would believe it to be a sign of serious mental illness. She could not tell Kit. Kit was terrified of domestic dogs and Bette could not imagine her reaction to a pack of wolves living with her baby sis, her baby sis-in-law, and her baby girl.. Shane was in some strange world of her own, unapproachable and also unknowable. Under different circumstances, Alice would have been a good choice. On important matters, Alice could actually be discreet. However, the pressure of coming up with cute bits for her television job made Alice an unacceptable confidant. It was further complicated that Tasha was a police officer, and might feel compelled, as a matter of duty, to reveal the pack’s presence.

” sometimes, Melvin would have benefited from a whack with a rolled-up newspaper” – LOL, agreed!
That is so funny. I love this extended family.
Crack me up everytime when I read this story! PPS, thx.
Love Bette, Tina is so funny, but the father should know better, Where are they going to the bathroom? Surely not the house. Angie is taking this so nicely Guess we are all sicko. thanks
I love it! Bette has caught Costco fever. I am with her, it does seem absurd that they charge you money for the privilege of fighting through the armies of other shoppers and giving them every dime you ever thought of having, but having said that, Costco rocks! Methinks it has not seen the last of our Bette. Now, I don’t care if Papa is Tina’s father, it just isn’t fittin for any male genitalia licking be going on in a fine lesbian home, and Papa gotta learn that! I think Bette should have whacked Tina with the newspaper too, while she was at it, because she made Bette apologize, and just on principle. I so love this fic!
Does that mean I’m a sicko? Ok no prob!
As much as I like this family, when Bette Porter is reduced to bowing and scraping and taking low, Tina’s “family” has got to go! Besides, I think Tina is reverting – not a good thing. Next, she’ll be picking nits from Angie’s hair. Thanks!
