    Becoming Dana Fairbanks Chapter 25

Looking around Dana asked, “Is Lara with you?”

“Oh you don’t know? She is studying abroad in Europe for a year- studying in Italy and France for culinary school.”

Careful not to show her relief Dana said, “No.  I’m afraid I’ve been so busy this year that if someone isn’t on one of my classes or on the tennis court that I never see them. But that sounds like a really good opportunity for her.”

“Yes it is. We are going to spend New Years in Italy and she is going to show us around all the sights. I ran into your mom a a few weeks ago and she said your actually going to be in Paris in January, right?”

“Uhhh, yeah… we… I mean the UCLA tennis team… are playing in an international tournament. So I’ll be there for about two weeks,” Dana explained wondering what was taking Howie so long.

“Lara is going to miss you by a month! She’ll be in Paris from the end of February to July. Too bad you girls won’t be able to get together. I think she is really missing LA right now.”

Dana was saved from commenting by her brother’s arrival.

“Howie, this is Mrs. Perkin’s, Lara’s mom. Mrs. Perkins,  this is my brother Howard,” Dana introduced knowing Howie didn’t like people he didn’t know calling him by his nickname.

“Hello,” the younger Fairbanks greeted shaking hands with Mrs. Perkins before turning Dana holding up a small shopping bag.  “Look what I just bought for Mr. P,”  he said excitedly showing the cat toy to his sister. “The pet store was right by the restroom and I saw this. Do you think he’ll like it, Dane?”

“He’ll love it. But now we have more gifts for my cat than Mom,” Dana replied with a shake of her head.

Turning to Mrs. Perkins, Dana said, “It was great to see you and catch up. We only have a few hours to find something for our mom.”

“Well, good luck shopping and have a Merry Christmas.”

“You, too. Uhh.. and have fun in Italy,” Dana added.

“Thank you. I’ll be sure to tell Lara you said hi. Bye Howard.”

    1. Love this chapter, anionayo! I have made a similar shopping trip for my father many times — I feel their pain. Dana handled the interaction with Mrs. Perkins very well. Love all the little touches you have in the story like Dana introducing Howie as Howard. They really add depth to Dana’s character. Next to Dana/Alice, my favorite couple in your story is Dana/Mr P. That scene with them and the clothes was too cute. Gabby? Argh!! It’s obvious that she can see Dana’s attraction to Alice even if Alice can’t (or won’t) see it. I have a feeling that Dana will fail in her resolution. Really great story. I look forward to what comes next. Thanks!!

    2. I third of fourth what MaGoose, HD and uhhuh said. I’m betting that Dana will fail her resolution (’cause that’s what we really want right :P), but I’m sure the way you will get us there will be interesting :). Ooh, and about Gabby… yurgh…

    3. Oooh, I almost forgot… Can’t wait for Danish day :D They should make it an official holiday, so we won’t have to sneak around at work to read all those great Danish stories :D

    4. I love D being all goofy with Mr P. I hope MaGoose;s feeling that “D will fail” would come true and that she would fail miserably. Just when I thought life was getting easier with the soup chef being far away, Gabby showed up. Oouch! “Alice hated being alone for holidays like this: New Year’s, Valentine’s Day, etc”, lol. Alice did not like to be alone, period. anionayo, thank you very much for this update and again for making Danish Day happen.
