    Bette — Plan B; pt. 39

All I needed to do was keep from saying anything too careless. I almost did; I almost said that I wasn’t ready for this.

I am ready. I’ve been ready. I try not to reproach myself about the past, about my failure, but it’s difficult at this point.

And I was gifted with several glorious kisses from Tina. Dare I actually think of her as ‘my’ T again. She’s exquisite in so many ways. How did I forget that? How did we forget each other. I was so lost in the feeling of her, of being with her, I must admit that I almost forgot about Jess for a moment.

Stupid. Stupid and selfish. I need to adjust this type of thinking. I’m diving into this quickly, but that’s the way to do it. All at once and take the shock, just like the first swim of spring when I was a girl.

Tina appears to be coming around. Jess, not so much. I tried to make conversation with her over lunch, asking her about school. She used that as yet another opportunity to goad me.

Why do I let her get to me? I had a therapist at one time that mentioned how sometimes a parent can see a child as a rival. I know there was some of that in our lives before. I have to remember not to bring that aspect forward to know.

This being a parent doesn’t come effortlessly to me, as it does to Tina. I watch her with Jess, and she just knows what to do, what to say. She doesn’t question herself, doesn’t perpetually second guess.

I marvel at the two of them together. They are, truly, so tightly bound up in each other. Perhaps I feel a slight bit of resentment that Tina was able to do so well despite the fact that I wasn’t there.

Once again, no more regrets. The past is past. Future. Positive. Built on the good things we have started to develop.

Okay, maybe a jog to the recent past is again in order. Kissing Tina. She was the aggressor this time. I found I quite liked that. I’ve been so trepidatious around her, concerned how my words might be interpreted or how her feelings might get hurt. I suppose I forgot her fearless side. Her boldness.

    1. sorry i’m back in my cast for over doing it with my story. So this will be short. or actually long now. trying typing with one hand. lol… Gosh i love this story. It brings a cheer to my heart and a tear to my eyes. But i really really love it so. Sweet dream my P..

    2. I know I shouldn’t do this, but I find myself “ranking” the various POVs in terms of whose I want to hear most about. All 3, for sure, but since Tina has the most complex decision to make I most want to know what she is thinking and what her conflicts are. Next is Bette but I (seem to) have a better sense of her. Jess is always amusing and interesting. As I said – I want all three POVs, but to me Tina’s is the one where I most look for insights and little details. Under what circumstances will she walk away from this, I wonder. Bette’s assyness and Jess’s non-acceptance, yes, but what type of assyness and what degree of non-acceptance? I am enthralled. Thanks, Pseud, for such a rich story.

    3. I love the varying points of view in your story as it allows us great insight into the minds, thoughts, feelings of the main characters! Great job and please don’t keep us waiting too long!

    4. I liked hearing Bette process what is going on. It seems realistic that she would vacillate between wanting to have a family and wanting to just have Tina. This is foreign territory for her and the fact that she freely admits her insecurities about being a parent, or even being part of their lives is touching. Jess smiled…just a bit, that’s a start. A small step, but a step nonetheless. Maybe Shane’s view next? She knows Jess the best outside of Tina…and she knows Tina. Hmmm, yeah – that could be interesting.

And you little missy…are you deliberately trying to make my night’s sleepless with that cliffhanger? Oy vey!!
