After their food arrives, Martha is losing even more appetite when…
“Oh… this is great Bette… try this.” Tina lifts a spoon full of cheese baked rice to feed her girlfriend. They have done this without realization that the mother is putting an eye on them and getting more ‘clues’ on their relationship.
They switch plates when they finish half of their portion to share the other half with the other.
Martha feels sick… when they exchange plates; they even exchange their spoon… Martha is very careful with hygiene that she’s even hesitant to share spoon with her grown up daughters. So seeing this, she’s beyond nausea but still maintains her coolness and says nothing.
“Bette… thank you very much for everything… the ride… the meal…”
“Oh no Martha, it’s nothing really.”
“It’s really a pleasure to have known you Bette.”
Bette is touched… “The pleasure’s all mine Martha.”
Martha has faked that sincerity… seeing how it has pleased Bette… and her daughter too… Tina put both her hands around Bette from behind seats in Bette’s Saab… hanging loosely down from Bette’s shoulder while Bette is driving. She watches closely how her daughter’s face is beaming… with joy and love? The mothers’ sixth sense kick in real hard… her mind starts to churn… ‘This is so not happening… my kid… my Tina… is with a woman… no… no… this can’t be it…’
Martha
Recalling back to the day before, the flower… the wine… the DVDs… ‘Was she letting herself in with Tina’s apartment key?’
Then she remembers the key hanging in Bette’s hand when they shook hands. How Bette talked about ‘taking care and look after’ her daughter. And how Bette’s expression soften and changed when she talked about someone exclusive in her life… how her daughter look… *gasp* the same as Bette’s expression and was looking at Bette intensely… Oh no… no… no… I must be reading too much into it. And somemore how her daughter looked so disappointed when Bette announced her leaving. No… this is not it…
But… ok, look at this side… she’s someone important… no… a friend of Tina’s… and I love her too cause my daughter love her so much as well… well… they love each other as friend and looking after each other as friend right? And Bette is really a nice and charming person… who would not love her?

Wow for me that was very heavy. My mom must have been thinking all those thoughts when my ex lived with me.I was not out and she was.My mom is very ignorant and will never except me for who I am. Her only thought is that I failed her as a daughter.I think that being gay will never be fully excepted!PPS

I know that Tina is heart broken about not being able to tell her mother about Bette being her woman. Sometimes parents will not make life miserable but in most cases parents cause even more trama to the children.

This started out all positive when it said “Martha had a little tingle in her heart to see the interaction between her eldest daughter and the brunette” then it went downhill so fast. It’s like she went from delight to disgust….dag Martha get a grip…did she notice how HAPPY Tina was? That should be what is important. I still say Kelly is gay…put that in your pipe Martha…lol

Ouch. =/ I’d love to sit here and say it’s no big deal. So what that Bette isn’t just Tina’s really good friend? But it’s not easy to see it that way. Shoot I still have moments of brief shock when I see two men or two women together. It’s not the default setting for couples. Plus, where I live (I’m in the States but a pretty rednecky part of it lol) it’s just not seen. I know my parents never imagined I’d be with a woman instead of a man so I don’t expect everything to be cake and pie the first time I take a woman to meet my parents. They won’t be assholes as they love and accept me, but they won’t be begging to see us making out or anything. lol

Eh-oh… The mother thinks she has done something wrong… :S I also found out that a mother finds it hard to see her daughter with a woman, Ive always thought it might have something to do with the fact that a mother always counts on being the most important WOMAN in her daughters life and now she can’t… yes I do remember our conversation about the mom’s… Parents, they are a special race arent they? wao! a lot of things has been happening in this story! maybe if Tina has a heart to heart talk with Martha, her mom will understand Tina’s feeling.
