Blisters in the Sun: Part 2

Over an hour after Tina’s mother’s departure, Wilson and Jun-Ying arrived, tumbling out of their limo and running into Helena’s arms for the briefest of hugs.  They immediately wanted to go out for fries and burgers, then for a swim (their bathing suits were already on beneath their clothes) so the adults decided that The Planet might be a good option for lunch before the beach.

The scene at The Planet in late morning, after Tina, Bette and Helena’s slumber party, was surreal and interesting enough, but it also marked the beginning of their friends’ acceptance of the changes that were afoot.

To begin with, Wilson, Jun Ying, and Angelica were having the strangest conversations, which Helena took part in to whatever degree she was able.  Bette and Tina were content to sip their coffee and look on quietly, amused smiles playing on their lips.

“tea?” Angelica offered a small plastic cup to Helena, who placed it alongside her actual mug of tea. The little girl waited for more. Then she looked slightly annoyed.

“Oh!” Helena pretended to sip the small plastic cup.  Angelica sighed—it would have to do, but the grownups were too cerebral to be very good at make believe. “good tea…English Breakfast or Earl Grey?”

“now cookies.” Angelica added, nodding though her expression was perplexed at Helena’s question.  She spotted some trucks that Jun Ying had dredged out of her small backpack, and decided that they should really transport the cookies to Helena.

“Brilliant!” Helena said laughingly. Angelica giggled at the way the cookies tended to fall off the side of the truck, spreading crumbs over the tabletop. They worked hard at keeping the cookies in place for their journey, and before long, they were using paper napkins and straws as cargo holders.

“Mummy…” Wilson was starting on question and answer after twenty minutes of silently coloring a Little Mermaid coloring book (which, thankfully, wasn’t the Disney variety, but an alternate version created by an artist friend so was therefore somewhat dystopic and gender queer).

“yes dear.” Helena glanced over her shoulder as the door to the Planet opened.  Wilson began to pepper her with questions about Winnie’s new girlfriend, a television producer in New York, and whether Helena liked her. “haven’t met her dear.” What would the children call her? “By her name Wilson.” But what if she became their other mummy? This question evoked a growl, so Bette jumped in and discussed the matter more objectively with the boy.

    1. That TBC (with no question mark) makes me very happy. So does the fact that Ninny managed to snag themselves a sperm donor; if they screw up parenting as badly as they screwed up “Lez Girls,” it’s comforting to know the framily is there to serve as a safety net. I love the Bette/Helena/Tina triangle and this story’s non-angsty celebration of free love. One worry: if Tina continues to write bad poetry, will Jenny feel threatened by the competition?

    2. Hmmmm HB I love your stories but the threesome of Bette/Helena and Tina just don’t do it for me….not sexy at all. I prefer couples. Why does Helena have to hang with boring Bette/Tina why not Shane/Alice? When I say Alice and Shane I mean friendship not sex.

    3. i had to laugh when tasha and alice got caught in france, lol…tina needs to do something to get out of this funk she is in…. needs to see dr. dan.lol oddly i can’t get into bette and helena stories, to me an odd pairing but this one of the three i find so well written and amazingly funny in its own way. jenny and nikki are so funny together…. please… tina needs to give up writing bad stories and what not… jenny is bound to go wacko on her sooner or later…lol… rofl at shane and puppies.. great update :)

    4. The trio seems to be growing together despite any hesitations Helena has. I am glad to see there has been a thaw from the iciness of the girls. I look forward to seeing where you take us next.

    5. So “Lez Girls” was a flop. Given Jenny’s creative *abilities* (don’t tell Sofa I stole her asteriks) that’s no surprise. Given same, I truly hope Ninny doesn’t attempt procreation, either. Isn’t the world a fucked up enough place without Jenny’s offspring roaming about? The thought along makes me want to retch. And since it was France, why didn’t they simply put the security video featuring Alice and Tasha on as a objet and offer cocktails and hors d’oevres for the debut instead of giving them the sort of warning more typical of American morality? (It’s that goddamn Puritan streak, I tell ya) And what’s a well muscled guy doing wearing a Ramones shirt? It’s not like Joey was any paragon of physical beuaty-in fact he was one of the ugliest guys I’ve ever layed eyes on-God rest his soul. Well, it’s good to be back. It’s good to see you back. I’ll be in touch when there’s slightly less shit hitting the fan-may I make it through the last 2 weeks of school. I don’t think this particular story needs any werewolves. And I’m so glad you canned the ?

    6. And you’re right about Shane’s reaction to the “puppies”. Any self-respecting butchish street urchin would have stood her ground and not got all girly-squealy about some nice, clean, wellgroomed stunt rats. And Angelica was wrong about the “puppies”, too. When I saw a tourist couple walking on W. 52 St. react to the rat scurrying away from the heap of garbage bags late one night, I smiled at them as I passed and said “nice kitties”.

    7. I love your sense of humour. Jenny and the knife.lol. Tina drinking red wine and writing bad poetry lol. And I think Alice In France. lol I love your threesome. I am going to read again. I love it you did amazing..

    8. Hey there, you do know you are only a 4 hr drive away… and if I have to walk I will make it in 4 hours or die trying to make sure you never give up on the writing… yep… you will be writing as long as me and well I think that might be forever … hehe… as for this story… lets see… when these three actually find there barings and well just start acting like more of adults then little Angel well then hehe… they might be deserving of their fates… but right know… let the healing come and love and passion are certainly ingredients for healing  … you rock and roll my beautiful friend. Hugs, JC

    9. Ok Finally read it. Cracking up as I thought I would. Hmmmm would love to hear more about Talice’s adventure…I wonder about Shane and Helena’s little tryst and if this story of free love might we expect a foursome or some other threesome combo’s….Great story Co-captain…(One comment on the comments…Beachlife I thought you liked my Bette and Helena story…Hmmmm Things that make you go hmmmm)

    10. Oh God. Ninny (HA! xD) creating a child together? *shudder* Dammit now I’ll have that Ramones song stuck in my head AGAIN. lol Sounds like Tina really had it rough growing up. I’m not sure what’s worse: depression and anxiety that rear their ugly heads at an early age, or stay dormant until then come crashing down unexpectedly.
