    Boiling Over

    “Trust me I am not.”

“Bette, please, don’t do this,” she said, her tone changing.

    “Sarah, it’s done.”

“But I love you. How can you be this calm? How can you be this decided already?”

“I’ve made my peace with it already. I have made my decision long ago. I just realized right now that this needed to happen. I can’t string you along any further.”

“You have truly broken my heart. What am I supposed to tell Rose?”

    “I don’t know, tell her I moved.”

“Please don’t do this. Please. Let’s fix this.”

    “It’s done Sarah.”

Sleeping was nearly impossible after having that conversation. The struggle back and forth of did I do the right thing? Holy shit, did I make a mistake. No, I couldn’t have, I wasn’t in love with her, I was miserable. I wasn’t happy. But why do I feel so guilty? No, I will not allow her to make me feel guilty.

“Do you feel like you made a mistake?”

“No, this is what’s right. You need to find someone who will love you like you should be.”

    “But I love you.”

“I love you too, just not in the way that you love me,” I said and she was quiet, “I would like to come by and get my stuff.”

“No, I’m not ready to see you. I can’t. Aren’t you affected by this at all? Have you cried?”

“Of course, I ended a relationship with someone whom I thought I’d spend forever with.”

“You still can. We can make this work.”

    “No, I can’t go back.”

“You are heartless, I can’t believe you.”

“Sarah, this was a long time coming.”

“I didn’t see it coming, you fucking blindsided me.”

“Just let me know when I can come get my stuff and I’ll drop off whatever I have that’s yours.”

“Is that all you fucking care about? I’m over here hurting and crying and all you want to know about is your stuff.”

“Yeah, sure, whatever you say. I just really need my computer, that’s all.”

“Fuck you Bette, I’ll let you know when.”

    ****

“Do you need me to go with you?”

“No, she doesn’t want to see me and I know she doesn’t want to see you. Remember? We’re in love with each other?”

“Ugh, how is it you always pick the crazy ones?”

“I don’t know Dana, but she always had that suspicion we were a lot more than friends.”

“That’s stupid, why would she think that?”

“You’re hot, smart and on your way to being a huge tennis star.”

    “Please, I’m not all that.”

“Well, we’ll see next spring when you compete in the California Classic.”

“Yeah, yeah. If you need me, call me.”

    ****

“Where’s my shit? I came and dropped your stuff, I even left your key.”

“Oh it was raining this morning, I didn’t think you wanted your precious computer to get wet.”

“You could have put it in a garbage bag for all I cared.”

“Well, I just don’t have time to get it right now. I’ll get it to you when I get it to you.”

“You know what, fuck you. You can keep it.”

“Don’t you dare talk to me that way, you have no fucking right.”

“Right. Take care. Have fun. You said you wanted a computer for Christmas right? Well Merry fucking Christmas. Enjoy your new computer.”

    1. Oh my god, that must have been terrible for you back then.

It is always difficult to end a relationship but i am glad that in my cases it wasn’t that horrible.

Thanks for sharing this with us.

    2. It is best to end a relationship that is no longer working only
to maintain a lie, pretending to be happy is the worst thing to do with yourself and the other person. One should not lie to boast a feeling
that never existed … Both parties suffer for it … sooner or later …
You did it right, try to be happy.
      The complete constellation.
