    THE Encounter

     

    I waited at the hotel lobby for Shane to take me to the airport.  I haven’t felt like this in a long time.  My heart was racing, my palms sweating.  God what the ***** is wrong with me.  I kept telling myself it’s only Tina, the woman I’d spent seven years of my life with.  But it won’t help.  So why should I feel like this?  Why should I feel like something wrong is going to happen?  *****!!!  Because things always go wrong when it comes to me and Tina, that’s why!!!  God what was I thinking agreeing to meet her?  *****.  Who am I kidding?  What the ***** was I thinking?  ***** it’s too late now. 

     

    I saw Shane’s car drove up the porch and What?!?!  Why the ***** is Alice in the car?  I thought  hmmm

     

    I walked toward Shane’s car and climbed on.

     

    Alice:  Hey Bette.

     

    Bette:  Hey Al

     

    I shot Shane a look and Shane just shrugged.

     

    Alice:  Hey!  I saw that! 

     

    Bette:  So is Shane dropping you off somewhere Alice?

     

    Alice:  Hey Porter!  Be nice ok?

     

    Shane laughed.

     

    Alice:  I’m just here to help a friend ok? 

     

    Bette:  You are?  Wow who is the unlucky friend Al?

     

    Alice:  Bette!  What the ***** is wrong with you?  I’m just here to give you support ok?  Geez

     

    I shook my head.  God what is wrong with me.

     

    Bette:  I’m sorry Al.  I’m just  Thank you Alice.

     

    I said that with an annoyed tone a little too obvious

     

    Alice:  Bette.  Come on.  I’m sorry I didn’t tell you she was in New York.  She wouldn’t let me tell anyone I knew where she was.  Plus I didn’t think you’d be interested!  I mean, well, ya know?

     

    I sighed.

     

    Alice:  Porter!!! 

     

    Bette:  Alice!?!?

     

    Alice:  I think it’s great that you two are finally going to meet like face to face this time. 

     

    Bette:  What do you mean this time?

     

    Alice:  Well, ya know, you guys were never in the same state let alone be in the same room since you guysumm

     

    Bette:  yeah I know Al.
