Can we get it back – Chapter 35
“Yeah, I’m great. I just… I can’t believe it. I just… I need to tell Tina.” Bette gets out after a few more silent moments.
“Sure. If you have any questions that you’re not thinking about now, don’t hesitate to call me. I will set up an appointment for you, 3 months from now. Then after that, 6 months and then you’ll have yearly checkups.” Dr. Stenton says.
“Okay. I’ll see you then I guess. Thank you Dr. Stenton. You saved my life. Thank you.” Bette says as she has calmed down enough to say her gratitude to her doctor.
“It’s my pleasure Bette. This is what I strive for every day. The good news. Go tell your wife now.” He finishes the call right after that.
Her legs are still wobbly, so she continues to sit down for a few more minutes. When her legs are strong enough, she gets up and starts on her hike back home. She almost run the last mile. She gets into her car and drives towards Tina’s workplace.
Getting through the security gate at the studio was no problem. They knew who she was.
She parked the car and went inside the office building where Tina’s office was on the 3rd floor. Outside the office, Tina’s assistant is seated and she smiles as she sees Bette walking out of the elevator and towards her.
“Hi, Bette. How are you?” The assistant asks.
“Hi, Melissa, I’m good, what about you?” Bette asks politely.
“I’m great.” Melissa replies with a slight blush.
“Is she in and alone by any chance?” Bette asks.
“Yes, she’s in. But she’s supposed to be in a conference call. I’ll go and check for you. Hang on.” Melissa says and quickly walks over and knocks on the door. She opens and walk inside. Moments later she comes back out.
“You can go in. She’s free.” Melissa says smiling and points over her shoulder.
“Thank you.” Bette replies and quickly walks over and inside Tina’s office and closing the door behind her.
Tina looks up at the sound of the door closing and is surprised to see Bette there. She smiles brightly and then she sees the tear-stained eyes. She knew Bette had been crying recently.
“Babe, what’s wrong?” She asks, jumping up and walking over to Bette, taking her hands in her hands.
“Nothing is wrong.” Bette replies.
“You’ve been crying.” Tina states.
“Dr. Stenton called me, while I was hiking.” Bette starts, again the tears starts, but she smiles this time and this surprised Tina a little.
“You’re crying again, but you’re also smiling. Bette, what’s going on?” Tina asks.
“I’m in full remission. Cancer is gone. Bloodwork came back perfect.” Bette gets out as she takes a hold of Tina’s face and brings her in for a kiss.
“Oh my God. Really?” Tina gets out before Bette pulls her in again for another kiss.
“Yes. Really. I love you Tee. I love you, I love you, I love you.” She continues to say in between kisses.
The news also brought tears to Tina’s eyes. She had been confident that the cancer would be gone, but to actually hear it, getting it confirmed was overwhelming to her. She brings her hand to cover her face as she starts crying. She didn’t know why, but she just started crying.
“Tee?” Bette asks concerned.
“I’m good babe, just…happy, so incredibly happy. The moment got to me. I’m okay.” She replies as she leans in for another kiss. “I love you so much.” She adds in a whisper.
