    Chandelier – 48

Alice stormed up to Bette. "The runt child knew before I did?"

Bette looked up at her, puzzled, then turned to Angelica beside her. "Is Aunt Alice making sense to you, Angel?"

"No." Angelica replied simply, not taking her gaze and attention away from the toddler’s 2×2 version of a Rubik’s Cube that Bette had given her earlier.

Alice took the seat opposite Bette. "So I was talking to this kid, right?"

"What kid?" Bette asked, not taking her eyes off Angelica, who had completed one whole side of red. She grinned at her daughter, who showed her accomplishment to her mother.

"The kid. Tina’s neighbor-slash-babysitter?" Alice reminded.

"Oh. Andrea." Bette nodded. "Feisty, isn’t she?"

"She’s annoying!" Alice exclaimed. "All hyper and sarcastic and she just does not back down from her interrogation!"

    Bette lifted an eyebrow.

"Anyway, that child told me she’s known almost from the very beginning that you and TK were all cuddly?" Alice demanded. "I’m your best friend, B. Porter! Me!"

"Bee," Angelica grinned at Bette, who smiled back. "Mama, ahh."

Bette looked at her blankly for a moment, then remembered she’d been sharing her apple pie with her daughter. Bette fed her a forkful.

    Angelica grinned. "Mmmm."

    "Yup, mmmm." Bette agreed.

Alice rolled her eyes, and snapped her fingers. "Porter!"

Angelica turned to Alice. She looked at her own hand, trying to imitate the snapping motion.

Alice leveled Bette with a look. "Why am I the last to know?"

"Took her a while to talk to you, though," Bette noted thoughtfully, while Angelica turned back to her toy. "She told me she needed to have the report done right away."

"Beside the point," Alice said dismissively.

Bette shrugged. "She’s Tina’s next door neighbor. She took one or two facts and put two and two together."

"Oh, now she wants to be a reporter, too? Why don’t you date her and just replace me completely?" Alice said snidely.

"Date who?" Tina asked, as she and Shane joined the table.

Angelica looked up, and showed Tina her cube, now completely organized.

    "Ta da," Bette said proudly.

    "Ta da," Angelica echoed.

"Oh, you’re brilliant," Tina cooed, pecking Angelica’s cheek as she sat down beside Angelica. "But I suspect Mama B’s going to give you the real one pretty soon."

    7. It’s so good to have a story where I can actually chuckle! The thing that drew me to the L Word in the first place was the humour amongst the gang – sadly lacking in S3 – I love how you write the playfulness between the girls.
